Cover Reveal—Waterfall Effect by K.K. Allen

Release Date: February 28, 2018
Cover Design: Sarah Hansen / Okay Creations

Synopsis

Lost in the shadows of a tragedy that stripped Aurora June of everything she once loved, she’s back in the small town of Balsam Grove, North Carolina, ready to face all she’s kept locked away for seven years. Or so she thinks.
As one of the victims of a string of mysterious disappearances in the small, picturesque Appalachian Mountain town, darkness has become her home—her safe blanket when the world reveals its true colors. But as the walls of darkness start to move in on her, she knows the only way to free herself from her past is to face it, head-on. She just needs to figure out how. Upon arrival, Aurora isn’t expecting her first collision to be with the boy she left all those years ago. The boy who betrayed her trust with no regrets. The boy who is no longer a boy, but a man with the same stormy eyes that swept her into his current before she ever learned to swim. She’d thought he was safe. He’d thought their path was mapped out. Turns out neither of them was ready for the crash at the bottom of the cascade.

Excerpt

As I approach the edge of the winding river less than a minute’s walk from my cottage, it’s like someone has injected me with life. With a lift of my chin, I close my eyes and inhale until I’m no longer dulled and disoriented. Everything becomes clear. In Balsam Grove, I breathe the air with new lungs, feel the breeze with new skin, and see the land through new eyes.
I don’t try to navigate my way. I hike beside the river, around every curve and bend, uphill and against the current. It’s a familiar path, but my focus isn’t on the destination. Every now and then I stop to take a drink from the stream, pluck a fiery pink flower, and tune into a wild animal scampering across fallen leaves. But it’s not until I reach a steeper incline that I take a moment to assess where I’m headed.
The river has significantly increased in speed since I began walking a few minutes ago. A steeper incline forces me to distance myself from the water’s edge, onto a more manageable path through the woods. My thighs burn from the steady climb, and my throat aches from dehydration. I never planned to journey this far, but I could have at least thought to bring water. I’m ready to turn back, find the river, and drink from it when I spot the top of a familiar red house peeking over the hill. Hummingbirds unleash in my chest as I inch forward.
Mere seconds later, I’m standing on flat land again, taking in the two-story home that overlooks a waterfall, an old millhouse beside it. It’s like it came out of nowhere, but this house—it’s home to some of my best memories, my biggest dreams, and the beginning of the horrible nightmare that ended life as I knew it.
“Ah, that’s my girl,” a voice booms in the distance. “Bring it here, Lacey.”
Shit. Jaxon?
My eyes sweep left, to the source of the river. Two waterfalls coming from different directions spill into one body of water where Jaxon treads. He’s patting the water as Lacey paddles over with a stick in her mouth.
Jaxon takes the stick, then rubs her head before she continues paddling to the edge of the river. After she climbs out and does a full body shake to dry off, he tosses the stick to the side and turns back to the water, swimming lap after lap until I’ve lost count. Every powerful stroke reveals inches of well-cut muscle and betrays his familiarity with the water.
Jaxon always loved everything about the water. Diving, swimming, fishing…sex. I shiver at the memory of how well our slick bodies fit together. Of his delicate fingers stripping me of my bikini top so he could see all of me as he inched his way into my body, my heart. Of his hot mouth wrapping around my pebbled nipple just to hear my whispered cry. Of the way he watched me with hooded eyes as I came for him, my back pressed against a boulder and the plunging falls above us swallowing my cries.
He took everything good from me, but it was me that handed it over for the taking.
He’s still mesmerizing, and I can’t take my eyes off him now. With every stroke, I imagine him swimming away from me, away from our past and deeper into the rushing swell of the stream. How long has he been swimming? How far?
I swallow my anxiety as he finally breaks from his exercise to catch his breath. When he does, I’m as breathless as he is.
I’m not sure how long I’ve been staring when he uses the slick rocks to pull himself from the water, but I’m completely captivated by the droplets coursing down his naked back and arms. He’s all strength and agility, effortlessly pulling himself to his feet. I should turn away, but I don’t. Instead, I watch as water glides from his long hair, down his narrow waist, and then over the most beautiful ass I’ve ever seen.
Is he…?
I gasp, my hand clapping over my mouth. But it’s too late. One slip of my breath is all it takes for Lacey’s snout to jerk in my direction and sound off the first menacing growl.

Cover Reveal—How to Date a Douchebag:The Coaching Hours by Sara Ney

THERE ARE NO DOUCHEBAGS IN THIS STORY. Well, there are, but they’re not who this story is about. This story is about me—the coach’s daughter. When I moved to Iowa to live with my dad, the university's take-no-prisoners wrestling coach, I thought transferring would be easy as pie—living with my father would be temporary, and he'd make sure his douchebag wrestlers left me alone. Wrong on both counts. ASSHOLES ALWAYS COME OUT OF THE WOODWORK WHEN THE STAKES ARE HIGH. A bet is placed, and I'm on the table. After one humiliating night and too much alcohol, I find the last nice guy on campus. And when he offers to rent me his spare bedroom, I go all in. It’s time for the nice guy to finish first. Midnight chats and spilling my problems turn to lingering touches. Lingering touches turn to more. And the ultimate good guy has the potential do more damage than any douchebags ever could.   ADD TO GOODREADS

Being in love with someone who doesn’t love you back sucks.
Being in love with your brother’s best friend sucks even more, because you know it can never happen. How tragic is that?
I’ve been in love with Lincoln Andrews since we were kids and he stuck up for me against my brother and played tea parties with me in the treehouse. I’ve also avoided him for the past year because he broke my heart…more than once.
Now we’ve been thrown together at a tropical resort to celebrate my parents’ second wedding, and things are intense and getting worse, no thanks to an insane plan my friends cooked up to get me my dream man.
No one else even comes close to what Linc means to me. He’s always there for me, but is it because he cares for me too—or only because I’m his best friend’s little sister?
It’s time I find out once and for all…but what if our crazy plan blows up in my face and ruins everything?

I smiled at her. It wasn’t a friendly smile. It was sinister. Her eyes widened, and she moved back on the rock, knowing I was coming for her.
“You better lose that dress real quick, Princess. I’d hate for it to get wrecked.” I crept closer. Panic marred her features. She knew all too well that I meant what I said.
“You wouldn’t.” She held her hands out to stop me.
“Come on, you know me better than that. You’re getting in this water. It’s just up to you whether your pretty dress is coming in with you.” I turned my back to her. “You have until the count of three. If you’re not in the water by then, I’m turning around regardless of whether you’re still dressed or not.”
“Linc, I’m not skinny-dipping with you.” Her voice quivered a touch with nerves.
I chuckled. “No one said anything about skinny-dipping, but please don’t let me stop you if you feel inclined to swim naked.” I reached for the waistband of my boxers, and intending to mess with her a little more, I removed them completely. “I might just join you.” I threw my underwear over my shoulder and onto the rock.
I was surely going to hell for this.
“Linc! Oh, my god!” I looked over my shoulder at her to find her face buried in her hands.
“To the count of three, Indie,” I warned one last time.
She huffed.
What was I doing? She was Nate’s sister.
“One.”
And she had Jack-ass for a boyfriend.
“Two.”
She was completely off limits.
“Three.”
It was silent. I turned to find her standing on the rock, twisting her hands nervously in front of her. Her dress…at her feet.
I gulped.
Lace. White lace. Matching.
Hell.
I was going to hell.
And I didn’t care. I didn’t care that she was Nate’s sister. I didn’t care that she had a boyfriend. I didn’t care that she was entirely off limits. She was mine. Always had been. And one way or another, I wasn’t leaving this island without getting what I wanted.

Review—Every Dog Has His Day (Bluff Point #3) by Jenn McKinlay

Publisher: Berkley Books
Published: January 2, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Source: E-ARC
Rating: 4 Stars

Blurb:
A stray kitten and a rambunctious poodle bring together a small-town bachelor and a single mother in the latest romance set in Bluff Point, Maine.

Bluff Point brewery owner Zachary Caine wants nothing to do with commitment. His wild bachelor lifestyle suits him perfectly—until a foster kitten named Chaos makes him a reluctant hero. Now he’s BFFs with the kitten’s two little girls and finds himself falling for their gorgeous mother, who couldn’t think less of him.

Divorced mother Jessie Connelly wants nothing to do with men like Zach. He’s sexy and charismatic and bad news, just like her ex. But her girls adore him, and he’s doing a good job filling in for their deadbeat dad. Then a snowstorm brings out the best in both neighbors, who, it turns out, have more in common than their mutual attraction...

So when Jessie’s past threatens her and her girls, Zach is determined to do whatever it takes to protect them—and live happily ever after with this family he has made his own.

Review:
This was absolutely one of the most adorable books I’ve read in awhile. Zach and Jessie were the type of characters that were both charming, a bit vulnerable, and best of all they never saw the other one coming. Add on two wonderful little girls and a even better dog, Rufus, and you got yourself a romantic read.

“If you keep staring at me like that,” Zach said, his voice a gruff growl. “I’ll have to go out in the snow just to cool off.”

Zach is living the bachelor life and doesn’t plan on changing anytime soon. Jessie is the single mother who is doing the best she can for her young girls. After being put through the ringer with her ex, trusting can be difficult. Zach and Jessie are neighbors who technically haven’t ever met until the ill fitted day when Chaos, the cat, went up a tree and needed help getting down.

The two have undeniable sparks but don’t want to act on the feelings of lust. Instead, they become friends who try very hard to tone down the chemistry that’s brewing between them.

I believe that the book can be read as a stand-alone as its number three in a series. But having started it, I wish I would have read the other books first. There were times that I felt like I was supposed to have already known something that happened before in one of the previous stories. Plus I like standalone novels in a series and reading them out of order kind of ruins things for me.

Overall, i think this is the perfect book to read on a cold, snowy day. It’s warm and lighthearted - just the way a good romance is supposed to be. Now all I need to go do is read the other books and re-meet some of the side characters in ‘Every Dog Has His Day’

Blog Tour Review - Can’t Get Enough by Gena Showalter

From New York Times Bestselling author Gena Showalter, comes the next standalone romance in the Original Heartbreakers Series—CAN’T GET ENOUGH!

Grab your copy today!

CAN’T GET ENOUGH Synopsis:

New York Times best selling author Gena Showalter returns with a sizzling Original Heartbreakers tale, featuring a rough, tough bad boy brought to his knees by... a kindergarten teacher? The king of one-night stands... To inherit--and destroy--his father’s business at long last, Brock Hudson needs a temporary wife. The ruthless ex-military heartthrob has always avoided romantic entanglements. Women are sweet, but vengeance will be sweeter. Or so he thinks. Only one woman will do, but the vulnerable beauty is more than he bargained for—sexier, wittier, and utterly irresistible.

The queen of the deep freeze… After an abusive first marriage, Lyndie Scott has sworn off relationships. But still she longs for a child of her own. Turns out, the brawler who used to frighten her with only a glance is the answer to her problems. She agrees to his proposal, with a caveat: spend every night in bed with her, then walk away for good when it’s time to divorce. Even if she’s pregnant.

A marriage of breathtaking inconvenience... As the days pass too quickly and the nights heat up, Brock battles a sense of possession and obsession. Will the former commitment-phobe convince his wife they’re better off together, or will she pack her bags and go?

Review

I’ve been waiting on this book since I first learned of both Brock and Lyndie. Lyndie is the shy one, who doesn’t trust men due to being abused most of her life. By the hand of her father and her husband. Men like Brock scare her but Brock has a gentleness to him that Lyndie can feel and see. He would never hurt her.

While Brock would never hurt Lyndie, he does have a darkness in him that stems from childhood. Not only that, but he has PTSD from being in military. All that doesn’t ever stop him from treating Lyndie with all the respect and love she deserves.

The best part about the book for me was the marriage of convenience trope. I can’t help it, that’s one of my favorites. Another trope I love is when the heroine is looking for a donor. A sperm donor that is. Lyndie doesn’t feel complete without a baby in her arms. Brock never wanted kids or a relationship; so while he’s getting married for convenience, he doesn’t want it to last.

Will the two be able to get what they want without falling in love? I for one can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this story. Lyndie and Brock are perfect for each other in every way that counts. The appearances of the other characters made me so giddy. I love them. Overall, while this can technically can be read as a standalone, I absolutely recommend reading all the other books first! Starting with the very first one, The Closer You Come, where it all started.

BOONE She was nothing if not predictable. I’d watched her for weeks on the security monitors, traipsing from club to club. Smiling. Flirting. Seducing. It had taken me a while to figure out her system—her game—but I hadn’t minded. It was time well spent watching her work her magic. And tonight? I knew if I was patient, my persistence would pay off, because like I said, she was nothing if not predictable.

Ten o’clock every third Friday night at The Alibi Room. I shook my head and took a sip of my coffee, wishing I had something stronger to drink. I watched her smile at the bouncer and step inside the club, the knot in my stomach loosening and tightening by degrees. She shouldn’t be there. I shouldn’t be watching but that’s how obsessions went.

And obsession was something I knew a lot about. As much as I hated seeing her on my screen, I couldn’t stop myself from watching her. And every time she appeared, I leaned a little closer, unable to take my eyes off of her, unable to stop myself. Unable to stop her. “Fucking stupid girl.” Tonight she wore a short gray skirt, a pink sweater, and high heels. Tonight she was all legs.

Tonight I was all hard-on. I licked my lips and settled in for the show, hating myself just the same. I should do something, I should stop her, I should help her, but I don’t. I shouldn’t enjoy this as much as I do.

About Allie Cooke: Indie author and die-hard Southern girl, Allie Cooke has been reading and writing romance since she was old enough to hold a crayon, so a future as a romance writer wasn’t very farfetched for her.

From billionaires to blue collar, from CEO to sexy entrepreneur, whether they’re wearing jeans or suits, Allie’s always had a thing for hot, hunky Alphas who need to be saved from themselves…Usually with the help of the right woman.

When she’s not writing, editing, or reading. Allie can be found cooking up mayhem in the kitchen or catching up on the latest and greatest TV shows with her favorite man.

Tonight I would fuck the blonde in the front row who continued to visually rip my clothes off with every little blink she took. Her tits were hanging out of her shirt and she licked her lips and batted her eyes at me. The set was nearing the end and I could feel her gaze. When I looked away and back at her, it was like her eyes had never left me. I liked when a woman knew what she wanted.

Blue and green lights flashed over the stage then washed across the crowd. When we made eye contact again, her tongue traced the outside of her plump bottom lip and at that moment I knew she was DTF. Her being down to fuck made this so much easier but then again, being the lead singer of the Band of Brothers made panties magically melt. I'd be her fantasy for the night. I'm sure there would be many more one night stands considering each show from Florida to New York, all the way to California was sold out.

The drums beat on as I screamed out the next few lyrics. "I won't let the world decide. I'll die before that happens."

The drums stopped and the distortion was cut leaving a melodic strum of Nikolas's guitar.

The lights faded when walked off stage leaving the crowd screaming and yelling at the top of their lungs. Jex, Nic, and Rex had huge smiles covering their faces as they chugged the water the technicians handed us. This would never get old. Moments like this were the ones we lived and worked for. Once the chanting and clapping rose to the maximum volume, the four of us walked back onstage and gave the fans what they wanted, an encore.

Green and yellow lights flashed over the crowd and smoke hovered at the bottom of the stage. We played three more songs. People sang and swayed to the lyrics and music. Some jumped up and down, feeling the full beat of the drums while others banged their heads. The feeling of having thousands of people chanting my words would never become real. More often than not, I felt like I was in a dream, one that I never wanted to wake from.

During the last song, I pointed to the blonde. By the way she was dressed in a tight pink shirt and a skirt that showed the bottom of her ass cheeks, I knew she wanted to be seen. She could have possibly had this night planned from the beginning. Randomly, I chose a few others from the crowd to join us, to dance in front of our audience, to feel the temporary power. It was something I did every show, every tour. It was a habit of sorts.

Security helped the girls climb on the stage and they lifted their arms and shook their asses. Before the song ended, the technicians led the girls' side stage as cannons of small fireworks shot from the floor. After the final song, my brothers and played the crowd and threw drumsticks and guitar picks. The yelling didn't stop for minutes and the audience realized we weren't coming back out. I walked side stage where girls anxiously waited us. I smiled, popping an eyebrow at my chosen woman for the night, and she instantly came to me. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and hers hung on my waist. My brothers stopped in the green room with the other girls, but Blondie and I walked to the bus.

"I'm Lindsey," she whispered in my ear before we reached the end of the hallway. I smiled at her and pushed open the exit door. Groupies and fans waited near the bus and as soon as we walked up they rushed it.

"I'll be out in a bit," I said, smiling at them with pearly whites. "My brothers are coming out that door over there. Really soon."

I hated to out their exit strategy, but I wanted to take my time burying my dick deep inside Misty or Christy or whatever the fuck her name was. It didn't matter. Names never did.

Review: WICKED SEXY LIAR (Wild Seasons, #4) by Christina Lauren

 Publisher: Gallery Books
Pub. Date: February 2, 2016
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Source: Print ARC from publisher
Rating: 5 Stars

Blurb:
When three college besties meet three hot guys in Vegas, anything can—and does—happen. Book Four in the New York Times Wild Seasons series that began with Sweet Filthy Boy (the Romantic Times book of the year that Sylvia Day called “a sexy, sweet treasure of a story”), Dirty Rowdy Thing, and Dark Wild Night.

For two people ambivalent about dating and love, they sure get naked around each other an awful lot . . .

London Hughes is very content to surf daily, tend bar, hang out with her group of friends, and slowly orient herself in the years after college. Everything’s going great and according to the non-plan.

But when a wave knocks her for a loop one morning, then Luke Sutter’s flirtatious smile knocks her for another that evening, she veers slightly off course…and into his path. Sure, he’s a total player, but the Why not—it’s only one night is a persistent voice in her ear.

For his part, Luke’s been on hookup autopilot for so long that he rarely ever pauses to consider what he’s doing. But after an amazing time with London, he realizes that he hasn’t been moving on from a devastating heartbreak so much as he’s been drifting to wherever—and whomever—the current takes him. With London he wants more.

Every relationship involves two people…plus their pasts. And as much as she enjoys her fling with Luke, when London learns about his past—more specifically, who’s in it—everything becomes the brand of complicated she strives to avoid. It’s up to Luke then to change some things in order to try and ensure he’s not something she’ll outright avoid as well.

Review:
I don't know what's wrong with me. I guess I forgot the "small" detail that Luke is the Luke...you know, Mia's ex? How the hell could I forget such an important detail. And the only reason I'm saying this, is for those of you who are like me, and forgot as well. Well, there you go. We know Luke. And we despise him.

Okay, not really. And after reading Wild Sexy Liar, I think I fell in love with him even more. Of course, he doesn't come close to Oliver, but he is high up as far as book boyfriends go. London, what can I NOT say about her? She's adorable and I immediately liked her. Sure, the girl is pretty closed off for a lot of the book but I enjoyed watching her walls come down. Luke most definitely had tons of fun bringing her...walls down.

So what's the story? London doesn't do relationships. She's not looking for a boyfriend much less a hook-up. And she especially doesn't go home with customers from the bar she works at, ever. It all changes the moment she meets Luke through. He's charming, cocky, funny, and insanely sexy. London finds herself doing exactly that. What's even more surprising, she lets Luke run the bases, alllllll the way home. But let's face it, London wins in homeruns that night...four more times than Luke.

The sex was typical Christina Lauren; sexy and sweet, all rolled up into one. More sexy than anything, obviously. Luke is a manwhore. Has a different girl on any given night but he wants London. She's a refreshing surprise to the usual girls he takes home. Also, it was nice seeing his point of view with the Mia situation. He really did love her.

Anyways, back to London and Luke. I enjoyed this book way too much - much like I do most of these books. I loved Luke's sister Margot, and hope that eventually she gets her own story. Oh, and Not Joe, I want his story soooooo bad! I don't know why I thought this one was going to be about him. I'm glad we got Luke though, he was everything one could want and more.
