“Do you enjoy the view?” King Edric asked.

“The rains have made the gardens bloom, and it warms my heart to see it so.”

“It is good to know that the gardener approves of the work.” Cyrene laughed lightly.

“I have not gardened in a month’s time. I fear I can no longer call myself a gardener.” She remembered when she had told the king of her interest in gardening at the last feast day almost a week ago.

After that dance, Queen Kaliana added a list of plants to her assignment, forcing her to reread every page she had already dredged through for information. It had wasted two entire days. “Perhaps I could change that,” he offered. He directed her down the staircase and into the courtyard below lit solely by the setting sun in the distance.

Her stomach churned at the thought of him offering assistance to any of her needs. It was like what she had read in her children’s books of the tales of Leifs, and how one request would be necessitated by a much larger sacrifice.

Her biggest sacrifice at the present moment was time. She wanted nothing more than to finish her work on agriculture and prove that she could get moved somewhere that involved traveling…and adventure.

“On the contrary, My King, I am fully enthralled in my Affiliate duties, and believe that gardening would only distract me from my work.” “You cannot spare one afternoon to spend in my gardens?” His blue-gray eyes searched her face. “If you have half the green thumb you suggest, then it would be delightful to have you on the grounds.” She swallowed. “I really have much work to accomplish before we go on Processional.”

“I could speak to the Queen and request it be lessened,” he whispered into the evening air. “No!” It was the first time he had ever admitted to discussing her with the Queen. Hearing him admit it aloud made her voice come out strangled.

Cyrene missed her footing on the pebble path and stumbled forward a pace. Edric steadied her. He turned his body to face her in the middle of the garden, and her breath caught at the sight of him in the setting sun. “You do not wish me to speak to the Queen?”

“I spoke out of turn. Please forgive me.” “I cannot forgive that which I do not understand. Did the Queen somehow offend you?” Cyrene shook her head. “I fear that the Queen does not…like me.” Edric laughed softly, taking one of her hands in his own. “Oh Cyrene, I believe that the Queen likes no one but herself.” Cyrene found that she, too, could laugh at his comment.

“Now, tell me what the Queen has done to make you believe that she dislikes you.” “It’s nothing, my King.” She turned her face away from his. She couldn’t possibly tell him the real reason. “Enough to infuriate you, which is enough for me.”

When she looked back up into his blue-gray eyes she felt that same magnetic pull between them. Somehow she had not realized how close they were standing. His hand felt warm against her bare skin. His body only a few inches away from her. His breath hot on her face. Her heart contracted in her chest, and she forced herself to respond.

“She speaks of…of your interference, as if…as if you…” Time stretched between them, and she thought for a split second he might move even closer to her. She was rooted in place, captivated by his gaze. “Yes?” His other hand drifted to her waist, and she was suddenly on fire. Their breath mingled together as she murmured, “As if you favor me.” “And do you think that?” “I…” “Yes?” he asked, stepping closer.

“I think you have your queen,” she breathed.

Review: THE BOURBON KINGS (The Bourbon Kings, #1) by J.R. Ward

 Publisher: Penguin
Published: July 28, 2015
Genre: Contemporary romance
Source: Print Arc
Rating: 5 Stars

 Blurb:
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood delivers the first novel in an enthralling new series set amid the shifting dynamics of a Southern family defined by wealth and privilege—and compromised by secrets, deceit, and scandal....

For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege—as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly. Upstairs, a dynasty that by all appearances plays by the rules of good fortune and good taste. Downstairs, the staff who work tirelessly to maintain the impeccable Bradford facade. And never the twain shall meet.

For Lizzie King, Easterly’s head gardener, crossing that divide nearly ruined her life. Falling in love with Tulane, the prodigal son of the bourbon dynasty, was nothing that she intended or wanted—and their bitter breakup only served to prove her instincts were right. Now, after two years of staying away, Tulane is finally coming home again, and he is bringing the past with him. No one will be left unmarked: not Tulane’s beautiful and ruthless wife; not his older brother, whose bitterness and bad blood know no bounds; and especially not the ironfisted Bradford patriarch, a man with few morals, fewer scruples, and many, many terrible secrets.

As family tensions—professional and intimately private—ignite, Easterly and all its inhabitants are thrown into the grips of an irrevocable transformation, and only the cunning will survive.

Review:

"You have always, and will always, matter most to me."

The Bourbon Kings was one hell of a ride. It's no surprise that the writing and storytelling were phenomenal. As sad as this is going to sound—it's my first time reading J.R. Ward. I know, I know, cue the tomatoes that need to be thrown at me. But before you do, know that I do have all of her Blackdagger Brotherhood books. I've started the first one right as soon as I finished The Bourbon Kings. As I've said about the writing, it's absolutely addicting. It's like her words beg you to keep reading them. I was only too happy to oblige.

Even though I read the synopsis, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into or what to expect. The story started off too slow for my tastes but never enough for me to want to put the book down. It's addicting, remember? Once the ball got rolling, it was on! I didn't and most importantly couldn't stop reading. Tulane Bradford and Lizzie King have a past and will come face to face after two years apart. Lane was dating Lizzie in secret when Lizzie heard through an announcement that Lane was getting married. Hence not seeing each other talking for two years.

But he's back. He'll finally come face to face with the love of his life, Lizzie. After everything that's happened, there's no way in hell that she could ever forgive him. Shes just starting to forgive him when she hears that he's coming back to his family's estate. The place where Lizzie has worked as the head gardener for the past ten years. It would be best avoided him at all costs but like a moth to a flame...

Easier said then done.

We are introduced to many more complex characters that kept me reading until the wee hours of the night. We have the Bradford siblings; Edward, Maxwell, Tulane, and Virginia. Their family friend and lawyer, Samuel T, Sutton, heiress to the competition in the bourbon business, and Shelby. All these characters have stories to tell. Are there too many? In my opinion, no. I really felt like all the story lines were like an addicting soap opera. You get to a point where you have to know what happens next. A storyline I look forward to reading more about is Samuel and Gin's. They have a hate/love relationship. And when I mean love/hate... From the little we did get of them, let's just say that it's going to be damn good.

There are many gasp-out loud moments, dark secrets, and scandals galore. Overall, I felt like I was in the story and will eagerly await for the next book. It's like the show Dallas, but in book form. If your looking for a book that has more than just your typical romance, then pick this one up. I'll just be sitting here waiting for the day that I can read more Bradford and company drama.

Review: THRILL ME (Fool's Gold, #18) by Susan Mallery

Publisher: HQN Books
Published: July 28,2015
Genre: women's fiction
Source: print Arc
Rating: 4.5 Stars

Blurb:
Meet the Mitchell brothers of Fool's Gold, California—five gorgeous men who've left a trail of broken hearts in their wake…

Maya Farlow learned the hard way to depend only on herself, so when she fell too deeply for the bad-boy charms of Del Mitchell, she did the only thing she could—she ran. Stunned, Del left Fool's Gold to make his name and fortune in extreme sports.

Now ten years later, Maya's been hired to promote her hometown's new slogan, The Destination for Romance. The celebrity spokesman is none other than Del, the man she dumped but never forgot. Awkward!

Although Del's not the type to hold a grudge, he's determined to avoid falling a second time for the woman who broke his heart. He's a daredevil, not an idiot. Trouble is, in all his adventures, he never found a rush as exhilarating as Maya's kiss. Maybe risking his heart will prove to be the biggest thrill of all.

Review:
Picture my happiness when I receive a beautiful package with Thrill Me inside of it. If you're familiar with my reviews then you'll remember that my first book ever read by Mallery was the one right before this; Kiss Me. I absolutely adored it! But I think Thrill Me takes the icing on the cake. I'm a sucker for the stories that involve the second chance romance theme. Del and Maya were crazy in love as teenagers but all that changed when Maya left. She left Del. As a result, Del ran. He ran far, far away; into the unknown. Traveling the world and making something of himself. Something he probably wouldn't have done if Maya never left him...

Now it's ten years later and Maya is back. As you may or may not know, Maya came back to Fool's Gold to be a buffer of sorts between her step-brothers. The reason being because Chase, the younger one, decided to make a fake cattle run and take people's money. Before he could give that money back though, he ended up losing it instead. Resulting in Maya and her best friend Phoebe going to Fool's Gold. Even though the cattle run came to end, Maya ended up staying. The mayor then offers Maya a job bringing publicity to the 'The Destination of Romance'. Imagine Maya's surprise when the celebrity spokesman turns out to be none other than Del.

The two must set aside their differences and work together as a team. What neither of them expect is it to be easy and carefree. It's as if nothing yet everything has changed. As the two begin hanging out more, they start thinking of the past. After all, how could they ever expect to move forward when they have so much history between them. Both are successful in their own right but something is very much missing. Could Del ever trust Maya after what she did to him?

Can two adults let go of what happened in the past? And more importantly, will they be able to move forward to a future? Along the way, problems arise when Maya is asked to keep a secret from Del and it puts her in a compromising position. It could put into danger the friendship that Del and Maya are trying to repair. I don't know how I feel about the "secret" because I can see both sides but at the same time, it's sad that the person whose asking, feels they have to keep secrets.

Overall, it's no secret that I fully recommend these books. They are fun and help you forget, even if it's just for a little while. I can't wait to see where Mallery goes next with the series. I hoping to get more books with Del's brothers! They are hot.

Exclusive Interview: TELL ME SOMETHING by Aubrey Bondurant

Today's blog post we have a very special interview with Author Aubrey Bondurant! Let's give her a warm welcome<3 Her book is currently free on Amazon and Amazon Unlimited. Be sure to check it out!

Blurb:
The sexual tension is palpable; the erotic path they’re on is inevitable.

Haylee Holloway has experienced more grief than a twenty-two year old should have to endure. When she moves to LA for a fresh start and takes a job as an assistant for an advertising company the last thing she expects is to have to step in last minute during a photo shoot as the model. Her bikini line and weight are suddenly open topics of discussion, and a client’s million dollar campaign is hanging in the balance. To cap it off, the multi-millionaire, gorgeous owner of the company shows up and takes charge.

Josh Singer, the owner of Gamble Advertising is private, intense, and hard to read. His voice is sexy, his eyes are smoldering and when he learns of Haylee’s goal to save money for law school, he makes her an offer she can’t refuse:
To move to New York City and work for him directly as his assistant.

Haylee’s dilemma: how does she travel the world with a HOT boss whose voice alone conjures up an erotic fantasy and not completely make a fool of herself? Frustrated with Josh’s mixed signals, Haylee finally puts it all on the line. Blurring both their professional and personal lives can they keep things temporary as planned or will they both realize some things weren’t meant to end?

Full Length Standalone book with no cliffhanger. First book of the “Something Series”
This book is for mature audiences only

Interview:

1. I'm so happy to have you on the blog today! We'd all love to get to know YOU just as much as we want to know about your books. But first things first, how are you?

Thank you so much for having me! I’m doing really well. The last couple weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions for sure with the release of my first book!

2. You just had a book recently come out in June called Tell Me Something. Could you tell us a little bit about what it's about?

It’s about Haylee Holloway who is twenty-two years old and alone in the world since losing her parents. She’s trying to save for law school and working as an administrative assistant. The book starts out where she is at a client’s photo shoot and has to step in for the model. She’s down to earth and self-deprecating with her sense of humor so when she meets Josh Singer, the owner of her company she’s not quite sure what to do with his serious and hard to read persona. By the end of the night he’s given her an opportunity to save money for law school over the next few months by working for him directly and moving to New York. The dilemma is that she’s really attracted to him and can’t quite figure out if he feels the same. Having to travel the world with just the two of them gives plenty of opportunity to figure out if he might feel the same.

From there it’s a journey from casual office fling to getting to know one another and working through individual obstacles. Both of them plan on this being temporary but as the end date draws near, they struggle with saying goodbye. They both have to acknowledge and then figure out a way to get beyond their trust issues: Josh with a messy divorce and Haylee with the fear of abandonment.

3. Will this be a series? Stand-alone? Why did you decide to pursue this route?

This is the first book to the “Something Series” however it is a stand-alone book. I decided to make this book stand-alone because we’ve all been there with a book that is a cliff-hanger. Some people like it-I only like it if the next book is already out-the wait is too brutal otherwise. Plus I love a HEA in a book and really worked to develop not only the main characters but the secondary ones so that people would want them to have their own story. The result has been fantastic as people will ask me if certain characters get their own book later and the answer is YES. And the best part in my opinion is that you get to follow along with the lives of the first couple in the next books. It’s like a glimpse beyond the book into characterslives that you’ve already invested in. Ask Me Something will be out by the end of the year about Sasha and Brian (two characters featured in this book).

4. Where did the idea of Tell Me Something come from?

I wish I had some sort of backstory for the characters, but they truly popped up in my head and developed over the years. However it really didn’t take off until I changed my style of writing to what I refer to as “Smutty Chick-lit.” I love witty Chick lit books, but by the end of most of them, I’m left wishing they had sex scenes. So I combined the two which really allowed Haylee’s sense of humor, sarcasm and thoughts come out (as well as my personality) plus some steamy scenes between the two of them. Once I switched from he/she said the book really came together.

5. What sets your book apart from other books?

This isn’t a love at first sight book. Their feelings take time to develop as they get to know one another and you see the progression throughout the book

Also it’s written (until the epilogue) in Haylee’s POV. She doesn’t know what Josh is thinking and neither do we. I feel like that is much more relatable to every female out there who has tried to guess what a man’s motivation is or what may be on his mind upon meeting him, talking with him, getting to know him. You have to guess right along with her. Sometimes it’s funny; sometimes it’s frustratingas you may have a different perception of his character than she’s feeling in the moment.

6. Do you have a favorite place to write?

My favorite place to write is when I travel for work whether it is in the hotel room, train, plane, etc. My mind is inspired by something I’ve seen or envisioned because I’m out of my normal routine. I then like to incorporate some of those places into my books.

7. Coke or Pepsi?

I’m a complete Coke addict!!

8. Where can readers find you on social media?

Twitter: (I’m new here): https://twitter.com/AubreyBondurant

9. What's your favorite book? Favorite movie?

My favorite book is Bared to You by Sylvia day. Her flow of writing, ability to tell a story and compelling characters are inspiring.

My favorite movie is Love Actually. (perhaps there is a theme of weaving stories connected) J

10. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Yes. Don’t let another day pass with things on your c drive of your computer. It’s scary to put anything out there, but find a beta reader/editor that will review your work and more importantly guide you in the process. Sometimes it takes an unbiased opinion to encourage you to take the next step!

EXCERPT

"We should talk," he says, his tone serious enough to cancel out the pride I felt for my own a few seconds ago.
"About?" I keep my gaze on his for approximately half a second before I can't take it anymore and I study the mug in my hands instead. Tall and blue, ceramic. Probably not dishwasher safe.
"Last night."
My chest tightens. He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who'll be pissed we didn't bang… But I don't strike him as the type of girl who's named Teagan. We all have our secrets.
"Listen," I say. "About that… Sorry I passed out. I don't usually make promises I can't keep."
"You didn't make me any promises last night." His voice is sharp, and I can't help but look up. There's a muscle clenched in his jaw, his sexy, sexy shadowed jaw. "You don't owe me—or anyone else—anything."
"No shit." I don't get where he's going with this, or why.
I'm not sure he does either, because it takes him a few moments—and a few sips of coffee—to speak again.
"You told me—wait." He breaks off, shaking his head, and nervousness swirls into panic in the pit of my stomach. I told him what? A fake name? Does he know? When he looks at me again, his gaze is so direct it's startling. "You don't even know my real name. Let's start there."
Oh my God, he does want to discuss names. He knows I lied.
Should I tell him the truth? Laugh it off like I thought he knew I was joking?
He walks toward me and my stomach clenches for too many reasons to name.
I grip my coffee mug like it'll shield me from any awkwardness.
It's not working.
At all.
And then he's in front of me, watching me so studiously I slide a hand across my face in case there's something stuck there.
"I'm Alec," he says, sticking out his hand. I check for, but don't find, any scars on this one.
Don't tell me, is what I mean to say. But what slips out is, "I thought the girl last night called you Alex?"
"Probably to irritate me. We hold no particular fondness for one another." He says it casually, like it weighs nothing in his mind. Still, I wonder why—and am tempted to ask—but then he continues with, "Anyway. I'm Alec Chambers."
And his full name echoes through my brain, bouncing around and, instead of fading, growing louder with every iteration.
It's officially worse.
So. Much. Worse.
I know his name.
I know who he is.
"Cool." I take his hand, offering the limpest shake of my life and letting go as soon as possible. "Do you have any headache meds or anything?" I gulp my coffee so fast it scalds my throat. "Got a crucial hangover."
Got a crucial hangover? What am I? Some teenage surfer? Why don't I throw up a hang ten sign while I'm at it?
But he takes the bait. "Probably somewhere upstairs—I'll go check."
I don't even wait for the relief to hit. I get the hell out of his condo the second he's far enough away not to hear his door shut.
The glass elevator seems so much more appropriate this morning. Almost like the universe is handing me a dose of the snide sarcasm I use so spectacularly on my own. Everything I wanted to keep hidden is about to be made clear, whether I like it or not.
Fuck.
I went after a fairy tale, but I didn't get it—and the stupid fucking clock just struck twelve anyway. Here's my Cinderella moment, fleeing before I return to tatters before his eyes.
But this time, the prince won't need a glass slipper to find me.
Because Alec Chambers?
His father is the CEO of Chambers & Britt.
I know this for a fact because my starting position at the company is to be the second assistant to the CEO's son, while he's home for the summer, studying for his MBA from fucking Harvard. And that son's name? Yep. It's Alec Chambers.
I'll see him again on Monday.

Blog Tour Review- MISS MATCH by Larelin McGee

Publisher: St. Martin's Paperbacks
Published: June 30, 2015
Genre: contemporary romance
Source: e-arc
Rating: 4.5 stars

Blurb:
Welcome to the sexy, crazy, wildly unpredictable world of modern matchmaking, where fixing up strangers is part of the job—but falling in love is an occupational hazard…

He's The Perfect Catch.

Blake Donovan is tall, handsome, rich, and successful—so why would a guy like him need a matchmaker? Andrea Dawson has no idea, but a job is a job. After being blackballed from a career in marketing, Andrea agreed to use her unique profiling skills to play matchmaker out of pure desperation. But when she meets her highly eligible—and particular—first client face to face, she wonders what she’s gotten herself into…

Is She His Perfect Match?

Blake knows exactly the kind of woman he’s looking for—and it’s the total opposite of Andrea. Though smart and undeniably sexy, she is simply too headstrong for a man who’s used to being in charge. Still, Blake’s blood pressure rises whenever she’s near him. How can he explain the smoldering attraction that sizzles between them? And how can Andrea deny she’s feeling it, too? Maybe, just maybe, they’ve finally met their match…

Review:
It was inevitable that I would fall in love with Miss Match. Completely, utterly, undeniably in love. When starting the book I felt like it was going to be just another romcom where aloof asshole falls in love with the meek, virgin whose down on her luck. For the most part it kind of was like that. Minus the heroine being a virgin and meek: she was anything but. Andy's down on her luck with no job but what brings us to the predicament she lands herself in. Which is working for Blake Donovan as his matchmaker to find a wife. Only he's a huge asshole who wants a certain type of woman. Basically, Blake is a narcissistic prick. At least that's what Andy thinks.

It does take long to see that there be more Blake and vice versa. Andy is spunky, sarcastic, and intelligent. All the things Blake absolutely does NOT want in a woman. It's obviously the reason why Andy is so perfect for the job. Only, neither one of them expected to feel sexual feelings towards one another. When finding the perfect match for Blake is hopeless, Andy decides to take matters into her own hands, so to speak. It's then that they get complicated. Well...more complicated than doing the impossible and finding Blake a wife.

I enjoyed how the story makes you want to fall in love. As the reader, you see early on what the characters do not. They know they have chemistry but the feelings go beyond the physical. That's exactly how falling in love. One minute your walking safely on the ground; the next you're falling. It's the most beautiful and pure feeling you could ever feel. I never once thought Blake was an asshole...sure the guy has asshole tendencies but for the most part, he's a good guy.

The matchmaker storyline is great because first you have Andy, desperate for a job and then bam! She's doing something she'd rather not do but kind of has no choice since she needs the money. It's so sweet it makes me giddy. The meeting Blake part, not her being desperate for a job! I do admit that there were times when I felt Andy was over-dramatic. And not in a cute way; more annoying than anything.

Overall, I enjoyed this and recommend it to all you hopeless romantics! It's a story that will make you feel good.

Except of Chapter 1:

Disclaimer: this is subject to change.
Tonight I would fuck the blonde in the front row. The set was nearing the end and I could feel her gaze peeling off every piece of my clothing. I liked when a woman knew what she wanted. Blue and green lights flashed over the stage then washed across the crowd. When we made eye contact again, her tongue traced the outside of her plump bottom lip and at that moment I knew she was DTF. Her being down to fuck made this so much easier but then again, being the lead singer of the Band of Brothers made panties magically melt. I'd be her fantasy for the night. This tour wasn't like the others because this time everyone wanted a piece of us as if our success happened overnight. But we earned every fucking opportunity we had. I would say given but that's bullshit. My brothers and I worked hard for every small and large success we had because that's our nature. We were raised to not take shit for granted and to work hard. Being assholes just came naturally but we knew to give respect where respect was due. Each show from Florida to California, all the way to New York was sold out and that felt incredible. The drums beat on as I screamed out the next few lyrics. "I won't let the world decide. I'll die before that happens." The drums stopped and the distortion was cut leaving a melodic strum of Nicolas's guitar. The lights faded when walked off stage leaving the crowd to themselves. Ian, Nicolas, and Liam had huge smiles covering their faces as they chugged the water the technicians handed us. This would never get old. Moments like this were the ones we lived and worked for. Once the chanting and clapping started, the four of us walked back onstage and gave the fans what they wanted, an encore. Green and yellow lights flashed over the crowd and smoke hovered at the bottom of the stage. We played three more songs and the people sang and swayed to the lyrics and music. Some jumped up and down, feeling the full beat of the drums while others banged their heads. The feeling of having thousands of people chanting my words would never become real. More often than not, I felt like I was in a dream, one that I never wanted to wake from. During the last song, I pointed to the blonde who continued to visually rip my clothes off with every little blink she took. By the way she was dressed in a tight pink shirt and little bitty skirt, I knew she wanted to be seen. She could have possibly had this night planned from the beginning. Randomly, I chose a few others from the crowd to join us, to dance in front of our audience, to feel the temporary power. It was something I did every show, every tour. It was a habit of sorts. Security helped the girls climb on the stage and they shook their asses in those little pieces of material that were supposed to be skirts. It always made women feel special when they were with the band, and I loved giving them just a little taste. A person doesn't fully understand performing live until they have had the opportunity to look out past the stage lights and see the people. Before the song ended, the technicians led the girls' side stage as cannons of confetti shot from the floor. Different colored pieces of paper glittered everywhere. When the final song ended, my brothers and I walked side stage where girls anxiously waited us. I smiled, popping an eyebrow at my chosen woman for the night, and she instantly came to me. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and hers hung on my waist. My brothers stopped in the green room with the other girls, but Blondie and I walked to the bus. "I'm Lindsey," she whispered in my ear before we reached the end of the hallway. I smiled at her and pushed open the exit door. Groupies and fans waited near the bus and as soon as we walked up they rushed it. "I'll be out in a bit," I said, smiling at them with pearly whites. "My brothers are coming out that door over there. Really soon." I hated to out their exit strategy, but I wanted to take my time burying my dick deep inside Misty or Christy or whatever the fuck her name was. It didn't matter. Names never did.
