Review-

The Kiss Quotient first had me when I heard about how adorably awkward the heroine, Stella was. I’ve now read and finished the book, only to realize that while she may be adorably awkward, she’s so much more than that. Stella is the type of character that has you wishing she were your best friend because she’s so completely honest and kind. It’s hard not to fall in love with her charm and naivety. 

Stella is need of some loving—more like she needs help perfecting the act of intimacy. So she does what any intelligent and wealthy woman would do and hires an escort. Enter Michael—said escort. One of the coolest (and best) things about the book is the fact that all the roles were reversed. Instead of a wealthy man picking up an escort; it’s the woman. Think Pretty Woman in reverse! Stella has the status and the money, even if she doesn’t quite fit the mold of how an insanely rich person would act. 

Michael is just trying to survive and help out his family the only way he knows how—by selling his body for money. When he and Stella meet for the first time, she treats him as an equal, not someone that she’s paying for
intimacy. The thing is, Stella starts wanting his expertise in more than just sex. Michael doesn’t do repeat clients for many reasons though. So why can’t he stop thinking of her?

I loved, adored, and cried such happy tears while reading this book. It’s one that’s completely unique to the genre, in my humble opinion. I loved the fact that the hero is Vietnamese (well part anyways) and the heroine has Aspergers. Huang brings us something completely fresh and in the process will hopefully help open the eyes of those who don’t understand autism as well. I feel like this is a changing point for the autistic community (and those with other forms of disabilities) as a whole. You aren’t alone. 

Diverse books are absolutely something we need more of—and this one will most certainly not disappoint. It’s smart and sexy—a lethal combination! Seriously, if you’re in need of something sexy yet romantic, and a hero that genuinely cares about those around him, including the heroine, pick this up. You won’t regret it! These characters will stay with you long after you finish reading.

Review:

Holy moly! I finished the book in three hours. I meant to read a few pages before bed, but then I couldn’t stop reading. This was so damn good! I just thought I’d throw that out there. There’s a juicy forbidden romance plotline, betrayals, crazy ex-girlfriends, and pretty much spending the whole book wondering how everything comes together. 

Oh boy, did it deliver! The twist was perfection that I didn’t even see it coming. It was so obvious but I still didn’t see it. I love a good mystery. I’m the story we follow two separate characters—Gabe and Elyse and the side characters, Catherine, Sasha, and Aiden. All these characters lives are entwined in some kind of way. Gabe is dating Sasha—she’s crazy and manipulative though, so luckily he sees the light and breaks it off. 

That is until he starts getting threatening texts on social media that he knows pinpoint to Sasha. But proving it’s her is only half the battle. Then Gabe meets Catherine in an unusual way and he obviously can’t stop thinking about her. Catherine’s got secrets that leave her guarded and somewhat standoffish. Gabe wants her anyway. 

Elyse has always been okay with being in the shadow of someone else’s spotlight. Her home life isn’t great, so she does what she can to get by. The day she wins the coveted role of Juliet in Romeo + Juliet, is the day her life changes. And not for the better—though she wished it was. 

I want to shout on the rooftop at the top of my lungs how much I loved this story and the characters. It wasn’t a complex story but it did pull at my heartstrings. The biggest thing an author can do, is make me feel all the feels. Once that happens, I usually become a fan for life of said author. If you’re looking for a story that seems quiet in presentation but takes a mean punch in the end, don’t hesitate to read this! I dare you to try to put it down after the first chapter.

The Beauty that Remains is the type of book that will be staying with me long after I’ve finished. Even now, I’m at loss for words. My review, my thoughts, my personal views; nothing will measure up to how beautiful and profound Ashley Woodfork made her debut into the book community. I knew as soon as I saw the blurb, that the story would be powerful—and I was right. We follow Autumn, Shay, and Logan as they struggle to get past the death of a loved one. 

“Music is the only reason I can ever ignore the feelings that always have me on edge; that almost never leave me alone.”

The book is told on three separate POVs; with each telling us their stories of coping—or trying to—without the loved one. Autumn has lost her best friend, Logan lost his ex-boyfriend—the one and only boy he ever loved—and Shay lost her twin sister. All three are on a journey of self-discovery, music, and eventually learning to move on. Moving on doesn’t mean forgetting. Music plays a tremendously huge part in the book, by bringing these sad and lonely souls together. Music heals, inspires, and says the words you don’t know how to say. 

I’ve been touched by the words the message the author has given us. The main theme if you haven’t already figured it out is grief. Everyone handles it differently and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. It’s so melodramatic for me to say but after I finished reading my heart wept. I think this is going to be a huge success—something I think it absolutely deserves. This is for readers who have lost and learned to love again, and for ones looking for something deep and meaningful. 

My heart’s beating. 

My chest’s heaving. 

I’m not breathing. 

And you’re gone.

I was really excited to be contacted to review the audio book! For awhile I didn’t care for audio books but I’ve come to realize that they are so convenient. The narrator is Brittany Pressley—whose narrated books from The Heir by Keira Cass to Bella Frost and Carolyn Brown. The words from Broken Beautiful Hearts as heard from Brittany, is beautiful, as she was really able to catch the essence of the book.  

The story started off strong but my main problem was with Peyton throughout most of the novel. While I liked how she could be strong and independent—a lot of the time she tried too hard to be that way. There are times when you can ask for help; it doesn’t make you weak. She annoyed me in that aspect—getting mad and overreacting over stupid shit. While she may have thought she was determined and independent; it came off as a petulant child.

Peyton is on the fast track to becoming a division 1 athlete at UNC for soccer. What more could Peyton want when she just got her acceptance letter, has great friends, and of course, the perfect boyfriend. A perfect boyfriend that’s been changing as of late. He’s keeping secrets and once Peyton finds out, she does what any sensible girl would do, she breaks up with him. But something terrible happens—resulting in Peyton moving to Tennessee to with her Uncle. It’s there she meets an aspiring and beautiful fighter, Owen. 

While I have all of Kami Garcia’s books, this is the first time I’m actually reading one by her. I find her writing deep, intense, and poetic. Despite my love/hate relationship with Peyton, I enjoyed the book very much. Peyton, when not being bratty, really can be strong. I liked how in the beginning she stuck up for a girl she felt was getting bullied. I also liked that she remained solid when breaking up with her boyfriend, Reed. That guy was something else... 

Overall, I think readers will enjoy a story of characters fighting back when not being heard, and never backing down. It’s a story of healing, new beginnings, and letting go of things that are out of your control. It also shows that while life can sometimes leave you broken; it can also surprise you in the most beautiful ways.

This is not how I envisioned celebrating my big news. I reach for my phone to check the time, wondering if it’s too early to head home. But it isn’t in my pocket. Nothing but lip balm, house keys, and Reed’s car keys. God forbid he carry anything except his phone. I pat down my coat. “I lost my phone.”

“It’s probably in the car, like the last three times you lost it. I need to run to the bathroom and then I’ll help you find it,” Tess says.

The line for the bathroom is six people deep. I can’t wait that long. “All my voice mails are on it.”

Tess knows that by all I really mean one—the last message from my dad. It’s the reason I’ve had the same phone for a year and a half, even though it barely holds a charge.

“I bet it’s in the car,” she says. “Don’t worry.”

“I’m just going to run out and check.” I leave through the back door.

Outside, a stone retaining wall snakes down the hill beside the house. The wall separates a paved footpath from the long driveway. My arm scrapes against the rock as I rush toward the steps at the end of the walk- way that lead down to the street.

Reed parked his car across from the steps, and I can’t get it unlocked fast enough. I search for my phone in the front seat and between the crevices of the center console.

Nothing.

When we got in Reed’s car I tossed my jacket in the back seat. My phone could’ve fallen out of the pocket. I lean between the front seats and grope around.

My chest tightens. I can’t lose Dad’s message.

Reed’s car is full of junk—hand wraps, sparring pads, sweaty T-shirts, and empty energy drinks. His smelly gym bag is open on the floor. I dig through it until my fingers hit something rectangular and smooth.

A box.

I take it out of the bag, expecting a cheap plastic box like one Reed uses as a first aid kit. But this box is glossy black cardboard, like a gift box.

Reed doesn’t do surprises, and he thinks presents are a waste of money. The only gift he has given me in the seven months we’ve been together was for my birthday. And Tess and Mrs. Michaels don’t have birthdays anytime soon.

My stomach bottoms out.

All the time he’s been spending at the gym . . . What if Reed hasn’t been there every night?

Things have been off between us for a while and I’m not a fan of his recent mood swings, but I’d never cheat on him. That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t.

The box doesn’t have a store name or logo printed on it, and it’s a weird size—too big for a bracelet and too deep for a necklace. A watch, maybe?

The Seven Sisters series has been optioned to be adapted for television by Raffaella de Laurentiis’s company Raffaella Productions. Daughter of legendary filmmaker Dino de Laurentiis, Raffaella has worked as a producer and studio executive in film and television for decades, including well-known 
projects such as  Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Forbidden Kingdom starring Jackie Chan, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and Dragonheart and its sequels.

Review:

The Pearl Sister is thought provoking book about a misunderstood woman, just trying to find her way in the world. Even though this book is a complete standalone, there are other books featuring the other sisters. After having read this beautiful story about Cece and her journey, I had no other choice but to buy the other books before this one. 

From the very beginning, I didn’t know what to expect. Cece has a very strong co-dependency on her sister Star. It bordered on obsessive if I’m being honest. In light of Star growing up and finding her own way, Cece goes to Thailand, where she meets a mysterious man that has secrets. But who doesn’t, right?

When Pa-Salt left Cece a letter explaining that she will find where she came from in Australia, she’s more than a little reluctant to make it there. Then there is Kitty McBride, a woman from a hundred years earlier. And that’s where I think the author completely hooked me. I’ll admit the beginning was a little too slow for my tastes, 

I love how the author was able to take me to a different place. I live and have always lived in the United States, and I’ve never traveled outside. But through this novel, I feel like I have. Through the other books, I know that I’ll be going to other exotic and beautiful places as well. 

Overall, I had a fantastic reading experience with Cece. Now onto to the first three books in the series to read.
