Ahhh. I was completely hooked from the very first page. I spent the ENTIRE day reading it—neglecting my responsibilities and being completely engrossed. I don’t regret a thing! 

Hailee was a spitfire who didn’t take crap from anyone; least of all her jerkface step-brother, Jason. What I liked about her most was that while she may have been tough, she showed a vulnerability that immediately made her more relatable. 

Then there’s Cameron. He was...complex. But I’m glad we got his POV because it also showed us a side to him that he didn’t show the rest of the world. The way he was with Hailee didn’t exactly hit me as a hate to love trope. Mainly because I could clearly see that Hailee was the one for Cameron. Even if he didn’t see it himself. They had insane chemistry that couldn’t be denied for long. So hot!

The real douchebag of the whole book is no doubt Jason. I look forward to seeing him redeem himself in his book. Because the boy is one hundred percent on my shit list. You’ll see once you read the book for yourself!

This is the type of book that I’m going to be reading again and again—and it won’t ever get old. Now comes the hard part waiting for the next book! I know it’s going to be SUPER juicy and I can’t wait.

Review:

Before I get lynched—I’m just gonna go on record and say that this is the first time author for me. Even though I have a Graves books on my kindle, I’ve never gotten around to reading them. Yes, yes. I’m a bad girl. But you’ll be happy to know that my first experience was an incredible one. I see what the big deal is now. 

I’m at a loss for words at what this book did to me. I LIVE for moments like these—where I e been so consumed by a story, that I can’t stand it. The Girl He Used to Know is told in a past and present storyline; with two POVs. Annika and Johnathan. They met in college when they were 22 while playing chess. Then something happens to tear them apart. 

Now, it’s ten years later and they bump into each other in New York. When I was first approached to read this book, I had no idea what to expect. Luckily, while reading, I still didn’t know what to expect. It was nice being able to go in and see something new and fresh come along. Annika is a character much like a lot of us. She’s sociably awkward, quirky, and very beautiful. There’s no way that I would be able to do anything but adore her from the very first page. 

Johnathan was awesome as well. He loves every single part of Annika and for that, I immediately felt drawn to him. Their romance was endearing and sweet—it’s hard not to root for that. The book was not without the bittersweet that makes you shed a tear or two. It happened to me and it was so unexpected. Overall, I thought was a very beautiful and poignant story that will no doubt leave a lasting impression on me.

Review-

Omggggg! I’m positively GIDDY! These books just keep getting better and better. I did it again—I started a book that I only wanted to read a few pages on. Well a few pages turned to several and before I knew it, I was done. Then there’s this bonus deleted scene at the end of the book that has me feeling all kinds of love and fucked up. Because it was hot as SHIT!

Anyways, before my whole review becomes just me talking about that deleted scene... I’ll talk to you a bit about the book. Tacet a Mortuis starts off where Broken Puppets ended. For those of you that read it, you already know all about how Ms. Jones left us hanging! For real, my mouth dropped at the end of that story. 

Madison and Bishop are the main couple of the story. Don’t be fooled though, every single character in the series is important. I’ve grown to love them all as if they were my family. So, while some may think that this has a bunch of aide characters, don’t. They all have stories to tell. There’s one I particularly need to know about between a certain sexy manwhore. Plus, Madison has an amazing best friend, Tatum. 

There were so many secrets, betrayals, sex, unrequited love, and oh man, the darkness of these books are what make them so addicting. Bishop is...something else. No words could ever describe how amazingly well written he is. Mr. Broody has so many shades to him that I’m always surprised when he’s given a little bit more of himself to us. 

Overall, if you’re into dark, sex-positive, and realistic and flawed characters, please go and buy the first book if you haven’t already. I’m already anticipating the continuation of the series!

In this day in age, with social media, bullying and intimidation make things so much worse. I hope and pray that women and men who are sexually assaulted, will continue to speak up. That’s why I especially love the #Metoo campaign. You don’t have to be scared anymore. While social media can be dark at times, it also has its uses for good.

Ellie likes to talk about all the things that make a girl in the book. So...what makes a girl? Is it the crowd she chooses to hang with? The clothes she wears? Who she dates? The type of movies she watches? It could go on and on. But the fact of the matter is that we are all the same inside. As cheesy as it sounds, it’s the truth. Another fact is that NOBODY DESERVES TO BE RAPED. Most importantly — no one deserves not to be heard.

"You bury me."

Colleen Hoover. I remember the first time I ever picked up a CoHo novel. Way back when in 2012 when I just happened to stumble upon it on Goodreads. I decided to read a few pages of that book and then ended up finishing it in one sitting. That's when I met Will and was forever changed. Does that make me sound overdramatic? 

Point of Retreat came out and I devoured the absolute shit out of it. Then the next time I would pick up another book by Colleen would be when Hopeless came out. I almost couldn't read it because I was so scared that it wouldn't live up to the writing in the Slammed series. I shouldn't have worried...

Every single one of Colleen's books somehow get better and better with each new release. How in the hell does she do that? 

If you're sitting there wondering how in the hell the next story of hers will top the last book she wrote (which made me cry for a week straight, no joke!), then you have nothing to worry about. Without Merit may be different than any other book she's ever written, but it was both unique and beautiful. Something I know to be signature Colleen Hoover. 

That being said, I think Without Merit is enchanting and comes at a close second to my favorite CoHo book. Many of Colleen's fans like to go into reading the book without knowing anything about it. I know what it means for me; it means I don't read the blurb or reviews. So if you haven't yet read the story, have no fear, I won't give away anything.

The message in the end was beautifully put. And that's all I'm gonna say on that front because I feel like I'd be giving away a major plot device if I elaborate. The story is full on family drama. It's not the cheesy drama that makes you roll your eyes, either. It's the kind that so damn realistic that you have to just sit back and take a deep breath. Secrets. There are SO MANY!! Some that made my jaw drop and others that made me so incredibly sad. Did I cry? I shed some tears but it wasn't anything like that damn book It Ends With Us. (<= I'm still not over it btw)

The best thing about the story was the underlining ray of hope. Hope for a broken family who I didn't much care for in the beginning. But one I grew to love and care for. The character growth was something else. Every single character endeared themselves to me in one way or another. Every last one of them. The family is definitely quirky, but that's what makes them so damn lovable. 

Colleen, if you're reading this, you totally did it again. I should probably stop doubting you every release haha. For those wanting to know if there is any romance, all I'm gonna say is read the book and find out for yourself! Overall, even though I'm satisfied with Merit and gang. I wouldn't mind if there were other novels featuring a different character's personal story. Until then, I'll just use my imagination.
