New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery creates the small-town destination for romance in charming Fool's Gold, California—where a loner cowboy finds the one woman who can capture his heart...

After Phoebe Kitzke's kind heart gets her suspended from her job in LA, she swears off doing favors—until her best friend begs for help on the family ranch in Fool's Gold. Unfortunately, sexy cowboy Zane Nicholson isn't exactly thrilled by the city girl's arrival.

Thanks to his brother's latest scheme, Zane has been roped into taking tourists on a cattle drive. What Phoebe knows about ranching wouldn't fill his hat, but her laughter is so captivating that even his animals fall for her. One slip of his legendary control leads to a passionate kiss, but she's exactly the kind of woman a single-minded loner needs to avoid.

In his arms, Phoebe discovers she's a country girl at heart. Yet no matter how much the small town feels like home, she can't stay unless Zane loves her, too…but is this cowboy interested in forever?

Review:
This is my first time reading a Susan Mallery novel which means I've started way late in the game that is Fool's Gold. It's a safe bet that I'm getting the all the books before 'Kiss Me' just because I love the setting and all the characters very much. I feel like it's a tiny little novella where I get to know and love everyone as if they were my family and friends. And to think I'm thinking this with only having read one book!

Phoebe is on the verge of losing her real estate license when her best friend, Maya, decided she needs a break from L.A. life. So Maya suggests taking a vacation to Fool's Gold to stay at her (ex) step-brother, Zane's, ranch. The ranch is hosting a cattle drive that Zane's little brother Chase set up as he jipped people into thinking that there was a cattle drive to begin with. I'll give you a hint: there wasn't! So now the broody and closed off Zane has to think of a way to make up for Chase's big screw up. Meanwhile, Phoebe is trying not to think of her own life and the screw up she's going through. Maybe the sexy cowboy she meets could be a distraction?

As I stated above, this is my first time venturing into a novel by Susan Mallery. I was entertained from beginning until the very end. Going into the book I didn't realize how much I love simple romances. I've been reading the After Series by Anna Todd and those books are anything but simple. It's pretty much borderline dysfunctional but I can't seem to quit reading them. That's why Kiss Me was so refreshing; I got a romantic story about two flawed characters that made it easy to fall in love with their journey.

I think some parts were a bit rushed towards the end. You'll see why once you read the book... I don't
want to give any spoilers away but the ending was too cookie cutter happy. Not that there's anything
wrong with that at all but I felt like I read a Disney princess story. The rest of the story before all that though introduces us to new and old (I assume) characters. Overall, I enjoyed this a ton. It was fun, engaging, and best of all it was romantic. If you're in need of a nice, light read, pick this book up! And if you have time get all the other books too. Because I assume they are just as fun to read.
