Some Kind of Normal is such a wonderful book filled with intense moments. The chemistry between Trevor and Ever makes you want to fall in love. From the outside looking in, Ever seems like a huge snob but she's hiding something. And then you can't help but feel bad for the girl. Trevor was in a car accident that put him in a coma; when he woke up, everything changed. Including him.

It's when he needs a tutor, that him and Everly cross paths again. They've never really been part of the same crowd. One is straight-laced, while the other considers what he does, fun. I guess it sort of is...until it isn't. A coma can do that to a person. Nothing like a near death experience to put some perspective in your life.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and fans of romance and flawed characters you can't help but love, will enjoy this. Yes, the romance...sigh! So good. It has the perfect amount of serious and lift and fluffy to even out the sheer perfectness of it. Don't miss out on this wonderful novel filled with hope.

“You got any?” he asked.

“Any what?”

“Tattoos?”

“Me?” I had to laugh at that. Wow. Before last year that would have been grounds for major punishment. Heck, up until my senior year, I hadn’t been allowed to wear lip gloss. Now I wasn’t so sure that my mom would even notice, and since I avoided my dad whenever I could…

“No,” I said, shaking my head. “My skin is untouched.”

His eyes widened a bit, and I felt heat creep up my neck. Great. Now I was blushing again.

“Untouched,” he said with that lopsided smile that made my stomach dip. “I like that.”

“You do?”

“Yep. A clean slate. There’s something almost poetic about that, you know? Tragic too. How many people get a do--over?”

Trevor reached for my hand, and though my first instinct was to snatch it back, his long fingers enveloped mine before I had the chance. He turned my hand over so that my palm faced up and then traced the little blue lines that ran down my wrist.

I can’t lie. It felt weird and good, and my heart took off once more, so fast that I was surprised he couldn’t hear it.

“This is…kind of…like ink,” he said, his words a little slow as if he was thinking hard. “But it’s alive.”

He glanced up again, and all I could do was nod before my eyes dropped to his hand. Mine was still there, small and pale next to his large palm and tanned skin. I saw the thin blue veins that ran down my wrist, the ones that carried blood from my heart, electrifying my cells and feeding my body.

His thumb rested just beneath my pulse, and I swallowed thickly.

 Crap, he was going to feel how fast it was, and that would be embarrassing.

“Your fingers are rough.” I blushed harder and thought that there was no way I could sound any more 

like an idiot. Not even if I was trying.

“Yeah,” he answered. “It’s from playing guitar. I practice a lot so my calluses are nice and strong.”

“I used to play piano.”

Wow. Good comeback. I guess it was better than a clarinet or trombone, but really. Dork much?

…Had he always looked this intense?

“What?” he asked. He smiled again and I thought that on a scale of one to ten, his smile was a total eleven. 
“You’re into the classics. That’s cool. Didn’t picture that.”

“Really. What exactly did you picture?” Shoot. Did I really want to hear this?

“I don’t know. PBS and that Jane Austen?”

Okay. First off, I was impressed that he knew who Jane Austen was, and secondly…he knewwho Jane Austen was!

I dropped my eyes, because I was pretty sure that my cheeks were as red as the roses planted just outside the library. Trevor Lewis wasn’t anything like what I thought he’d be. He wasn’t stupid and he wasn’t arrogant. He wasn’t slow or weird.

He seemed pretty normal to me.

You know, for a guy with tattoos and blue hair.

"Everyone's got something. Some people are just better actors than others."

THAT. That... is just so true. Writing my review for Every Last Word won't do the story justice. It's one that you need to go into and see for yourself just how truly poetic it is. I've been inspired, I fell in love and not in the way you might think, and best of all I felt like I wasn't alone. Let me tell you a little story about myself; something very personal. This last year I was diagnosed with clinical depression. For the longest time, I didn't even want to acknowledge that I needed help but I did and I finally did something about it. What shocked me was that everyday people who you think are normal, actually have a mental illness. I didn't have to hide anymore because like those normal, everyday people, I WASN'T ALONE. 

You want to know what helped me when things got really damn dark? Books. I started this blog because I wanted to share my love for books with readers alike, but most of all, I did it because it kept the darkness away. Even if it were just for a little while. The name, The Lovely Books, stems from the book The Lovely Bones; remember how depressing that book was?  But there was light at the end of the tunnel.

I knew by the first page of  ELW that it would be intense. Samantha is a regular girl on the outside but she carries a secret. As read you in the synopsis, she has Purely-Obsessional OCD and is consumed by a stream of dark thoughts and worries that she can't turn off. Whoa. Are you intrigued? I know I was. Reading Sam's story is heartbreaking. The struggles she faces night and day are horrific to even think about. No one should ever have to deal with it! What helps Samantha cope is her love for swimming and counting in threes. The day she meets Caroline, is the day that everything is about to change.

"I'm going to show you something that will change your whole life." 

And change her life it did. Caroline introduces Sam to Poet's Corner. A place that's whimsical with a touch of mystery. The first day that Sam goes to the secret hideout that the club meets at, AJ, a boy in the club, tells her she can go to this one meeting but after that, she isn't allowed back.  Sam is determined to stay though after that first meeting. She's drawn to them and wants to know what it feels like to be part of a group where she doesn't have to hide who she is. Or who she wants to be. Her friends are superficial and don't understand her much. In fact, I personally didn't like her friends in the least. They were grade-A b**ches. 

"One person's crazy is another person's interesting."

I think that Stone does well with portraying the illness that Sam has. It was very realistic and it truly shows what it can be like. One thing I really loved about the book is the fact that mental illness isn't taboo in here. Besides the OCD, the book lightly touches base with suicide and depression. Samantha's psychiatrist was absolutely amazing, as was Sam's mother. They treated her normally enough but I love the fact that the heroine has such a great support system. The other characters we meet, particularly the one in the secret club, were all amazing. They welcomed Sam with open arms...well except with AJ but that quickly changes.

Overall, I think this a book that needs to be read in all its glory. I fully recommend it to adults and teenagers. And please remember you aren't alone. If you need help, seek it. Don't wait until it's too late. The book community for one is amazing plus the book always help :)

The ridges on the stark white ceiling blurred from my intense stare as I listened to the steady even breaths coming from the body next to me. He wasn’t a bad guy. Just an idiot. Maybe even married for all I knew. The clock read four twenty-three. That wouldn’t work for me. I waited for a nice round even number. Something that felt right. I held my phone with the message typed out: I need you. I keyed in the address, and when the clock hit four thirty, I hit Send.

 At ten before five AM, I eased my body out of the bed the way a mother slips from her sleeping child, hoping not to rouse her angel. He stirred a moment and turned on his side, his arm involuntarily reaching for me. “Sky,” he murmured with his eyes closed. His dark buzz cut hair was sprinkled with gray flecks, and a small rectangular scar bordered the hairline on the right side of his face. I hadn’t noticed that the night before, or I would have asked him. Now my curiosity had me pausing, conjuring up various scenarios for its origin.

Whatever the cause would forever remain a mystery. With a gentle hold around his wrist, I lifted his hand and rested it on the comforter. His eyes flitted open and closed. Frozen, I waited to see if he’d wake. I didn’t worry about coming up with a story. It always came. Still sitting on the edge of the bed, I reached over to an adjacent chair to snag my black silk shirt

 When I pulled it over my head and then glanced down, two light blue eyes met mine. “Hey, you,” he whispered. I scooped up my purse from the dresser on the way out, catching his face in the mirror. They always had that same look the next day. Or perhaps I was the one who saw things differently.  When I reached the door, he came in and leaned against the couch, folding his arms. “I could have driven you home.” “It’s okay,” I said, pulling the door open. Nathan stood in the doorway, hands stretched out to the jams on each side, his brown hair ragged from being dragged from the comfort of
his bed.

He shot me that look that said, you owe me and then let one hand fall and sweep to the side as if
making a path for royalty. “Wait,” a voice came from behind me. “Who’s this guy?” Nathan took a

step into the doorway. “Oh, hey, man.” “John, this is my cousin, Nathan,” I said. Unfortunately, Nathan had spoken at the same time I did and said, “I’m her neighbor.” John walked over to the two of us, eyes darting between me and my partner in crime. “Well, which is it?” Nathan and I exchanged looks, and I opened my mouth to speak. Review:

We all know and love the tale of Peter Pan, the boy who never wanted to grow up. We rooted for him through it all, especially when he was facing his nemesis, Captain Hook. Well, I want you to wipe that slate clean and go into Alias Hook with the knowledge that it will be him that we root for. Jensen has crafted a beautifully written story about the pirate with a hand for a hook. We get to take a peek at his life before and after; a life that shows a lot of vulnerability but strength as well. I've only read one other Peter Pan rebelling and it was told from the pov of Tiger Lily. I really enjoyed it. But in this story Peter isn't painted as a nice little boy. 

The book takes place in the early 18th century, and Hook isn't a pirate. He's a regular guy that goes by the name James Benjamin Hookbridge. We go through his story and find out why it is he turned to piracy. The result in all this is being led to a place that only exist in dreams; Neverland. It's there he meets Pan and his gang, the Lost Boys. Time and time again Hook is cursed with dying and then being brought back to life just to die again. For someone who has lived for around two hundred years, all he wants to do is die for real. Can you blame him? While in Neverland, he has the fortune( or misfortune depending on how you look at it) of meeting a woman, Stella. It's almost unheard of. A woman in Neverland? Is she part of Pan's group? How and why would she be in Neverland?

Alias Hook was magical, wonderful, and full of beautiful descriptions of such a classic tale we grew up reading. Jensen has taken a childhood story and turned it into her own with a very flawed character that isn't at all what he seems. It's Captain Hook for crying out loud! He's evil and ruthless! Right? Wrong. Pan is the little demon child who gets way too much credit. I liked Stella and the personality she brought to the story. I was interested in what and how the book would end. 

How many times as an adult have you thought, "man what I would do to be a child again!". No responsibilities, no bills, no having to do no fun, grown up things. Come on. We've all thought it at one point in our lives. But then you truly think about it and realize that yeah, you may not have any sort of responsibility but you also don't have the freedom as an adult does. That's sort of what I thought about reading Alias Hook. Hook is immortal, never getting an older or younger. Just stuck as is. How terrible would that be? Now I ask you, would you truly ever want to stay young forever? 

Overall, I enjoyed this book because let's face it, Hook was kind of hot. I kept picturing a cross between Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Hook from Once Upon a Time. Can't go wrong with those pirates! I also enjoyed and appreciated the entirety of the book. It was nice seeing the POV
from the "villain" for once.
