My Review:

RoomHate is one of those books that you can easily devour in one sitting. It was funny, sweet, and at times it even pulled on my heartstrings.

I loved Justin from the first moment he was introduced. Don't get me wrong, I thought he was a bit of a jerk with some of the things that he was saying, but I knew that he was speaking from a place filled with hurt and anger. I loved watching his growth throughout the book. He was definitely my favorite character.

Amelia took a little time to grow on me, and I honestly can't pinpoint it on any particular thing. Maybe it was the way she handled herself in stressful situations. Maybe it was due to the fact that I was immediately drawn to Justin and his anger rubbed off on me. What I do know, is that I came to love her in the end and that's all that matters.

The first twenty percent of the book was a little slow for me. I found myself setting it down to do the simplest of tasks. Once things got moving, however, I was sucked into the story and ended up being held captive until the very last page. I went from setting the book down to tripping over things as I went to get a drink because I didn't want to step outside of the story for even a second.

I'd have to give RoomHate 4.5 stars. I've read my share of books from Penelope Ward, and Stepbrother Dearest had always remained my favorite. I'm happy to say that this is now in the running as my favorite book from her. The last half seriously warmed my heart and I just can't get over it. I know I'm being very vague, but this story is easily spoiled and I don't want to do that.

If you're looking for a quick read that will draw on various emotions then I definitely recommended picking up a copy of RoomHate today. In the end you'll be left with a smile on your face and the desire to go back in for a reread.

His eyes darted to the side, and he noticed me standing there. We just stared at each other. It was ironic, but the only times I could ever feel the remnants of our old connection were in fleeting moments of silent eye contact. Sometimes moments of silence spoke the loudest.

I left him alone again, making my way back down the hall and into the restaurant to tend to the customers I’d been ignoring.

Things really started to get busy. Without Jade working tonight, we were short-staffed, and I was having a hard time keeping up with the orders. Sandy’s had indoor and outdoor seating. Normally, I would only be working one section, but tonight I was going back and forth between the two.

It was nice out, so I knew they would have Justin performing outside. I kept glancing over to the small stage to see if he was there. It was past eight, and he hadn’t made an appearance yet.

Sometime close to eight-thirty, I was in the middle of serving a large party of ten when I first heard it: the chilling sound of a soulful voice that was not familiar in the least. He gave no introduction. No warning. He just started to sing out the first few words, followed by the strum of his guitar. The song that Justin had chosen to start with was a cover of Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers.

The entire room soon quieted down, and all eyes were on the stunning blond male specimen with the spotlight shining down on him. Despite the fact that I was carrying a large round tray of dirty dishes, I couldn’t move. The vibration of his thick, smoky singing voice had completely paralyzed me, penetrating my body and soul.

Aside from the lone teardrop that fell the night he lost it on me during steak dinner, I hadn’t shed any more tears—until now. It was all too much. Hearing how different his voice sounded, how he’d trained it over the years, was a wake-up call as to how much I had missed. All of the hours of practice that must have gone into honing that beautiful voice, and I wasn’t there for any of it. The guilt, the emotions, the reality of a decade gone…everything started to pummel me at once. Not to mention the song—about a girl leaving. It probably had nothing to do with me, but in my mind, it sure as hell felt like it did.

“Let them in.” King Maltrier pulled in a shuddering breath and then coughed raggedly for a minute.
“Your Majesty, are you sure?” his longtime servant asked. He had the same relentless attitude that he always had, but he sounded more earnest than ever, as if he could will the King not to die.
“Get them, Solmis. Now.”
Solmis walked wearily across the darkened room. He heaved open the weathered door to the King’s bedchamber and spoke to the pair of guards standing watch, “Get the boys. The King wishes to speak with them.”
One guard punched his right fist to the left side of his chest in a formal Byern salute and then walked into the outer chamber. A moment later, he returned with two young boys with the same dark hair and blue-gray eyes that marked them as Dremylon heirs.
“This way, boys,” Solmis said. He was one of the few people who could get away with calling the Princes boys.
“Thank you, Solmis,” Edric, the crown prince, said with a smile and the confidence of someone who never wanted for anything.
The second son, Kael, pushed past them both, mimicking his brother’s stride. His face was set in a scowl. Some of his youthful exuberance had already drained out of him, and in its place was cynicism from losing a mother too young and from having a sick father, but mostly, it was from being second.
“Father,” he called out.
“Come here, Kael,” the King said. He patted the side of the bed. “You, too, Edric.”
Edric walked to his side and settled into a chair while Kael hoisted himself up onto the bed.
With Edric being fifteen and Kael at thirteen, both were much too young for this kind of loss.
The King had seen his youngest, Jesalyn, earlier that day. She had cried the entire time, understanding what was coming and knowing she could do nothing to stop it. In tears, she had run out of the room and straight into Consort Shamira’s arms. She had all but raised the child after his wife, Queen Adelaida’s unceremonious death.
But he couldn’t waste thoughts on that now. He was tiring with every passing moment. The boys…they had to know.
“Solmis,” the King said, regaining a shred of strength.
His servant, his old friend, left the room, giving them the privacy they needed.
“Father,” Kael repeated impatiently.
“I’m dying,” King Maltrier said.
Silence followed the declaration. Kael looked aghast. Edric tried to hide the shock of what he knew would be coming next.
“Edric will succeed me.”
“I’m too young to be king,” Edric whispered.
“Fifteen is not too young.” The King thought that was questionable, but he would not dispute it with his son. Edric had to be strong. He had to rule. “You have the Consort and my High Order to help and guide you.”
Edric swallowed and nodded. “Yes, Father.”
“Trust in yourself, and all will go as planned. I have formed an alliance with Aurum for Jesalyn to be queen and another with Tiek, who has offered you their young Princess Kaliana. Honor these matches to keep our people safe. A strong king is one with an heir.”
The King leaned over and coughed into a handkerchief for several minutes. His throat was raw, and his lungs ached. He didn’t know how much more he could take, but he had to pass on their legacy.
But could he put that burden on them?
He had to decide now.
No. He would tell only one. He would pass it on to the boy most like himself—the one who could handle the knowledge, the one destined to rule.
The King turned to one of his sons and said, “I need to speak with your brother alone for a moment.”
His eyebrows knit together as hurt and confusion clouded his features. “But, Father—”
“Go,” King Maltrier commanded.
He clenched his jaw, stood, and left without another word.

The door closed roughly behind him.

“Viktor struck down the evil Doma court that subjugated our people. Then he claimed the throne for himself with the sole purpose of ruling in a fair and just system.”
“Yes, Father.”
“History is told by the winners.”
“What do you mean?” He tilted his head and looked concerned.
Perhaps he thought the King had already lost his mind.
“Viktor did destroy the Doma court, and he ushered in a new era of Dremylon rule that has persisted two thousand years up until you today. But what is not in the stories is that the Doma court had ruled because they had powerful…abilities.”
His son laughed like his father was telling a fairy tale.
“Listen!” the King snapped. That sent him into another fit, and his son helped him sit up, so he could cough into his handkerchief.
When King Maltrier leaned back again, the King saw blood had coated the white silk.
“Father, you should rest.”
“I need to tell you—” He was interrupted by another cough. “—the truth. Viktor beat the Doma court and the most powerful leader they had ever known, Domina Serafina, by stealing magic—dark magic, a magic that cursed Viktor and all his ancestors. It cursed me…and you…the entire Dremylon line.”
His son remained silent and still. The King had gained his attention.

Blog Tour Review- IN REAL LIFE by Jessica Love

"Some people have a love story

This is one of those times when I'm actually surprised with how much I like a book after I've finished reading it. The synopsis truly doesn't give it any justice. So if you're reading this review, don't go by what the blurb says, don't even really go by what I say! You'll have to dive into the story to see how truly  cute and heartwarming In Real Life is. I loved the aspect of two teenagers having an online relationship, even though they've never met in real life, so to speak.

I think the author did a great job in making this as realistic as it can get in terms of finally meeting an online friend. Do they measure up to what you conjured up in your head? Are they different? Awkward? I liked that we got to see Hannah struggle through her feelings as she tries to compare online Nick to the real life and in the flesh Nick. The two have been best friends since meeting online through their siblings, who had just met at the time. It starts a relationship of online chatting, texts, emails, and video chats.

"This isn’t going to be a friend meeting a friend for the first time. Oh no, this is going to be love at first in-real-life sight."

But Nick has been keeping a secret or two. And the moment that Hannah decides to let her hair down and tell Nick how she feels, well, let's just say that nothing goes as planned. Set in Sin City, we're taking on an sweet and sometimes angsty ride, as the two online best friends work out what their friendship means. Oh and I kind of forgot to mention even though this takes place in Las Vegas, Hannah actually resides in Cali.

“I like this,” he says, still looking right in my eyes. Still smiling.
“What?”
“You. In real life.”

Let me get all fan girl on you now. I ADORED this book so hard. Like I want to read it again and again because the two main characters are so adorkably cute. I like led the simplicity of the writing, the plot, and of course the romance. My only problem was the ending. I felt it was abrupt and there were some things I wanted explained. I wouldn't say the story is left open ended but yeah I feel like there's so much openness to it.

I think if you're a fan of contemporary and a fan of YA in general, then this will be a no brainer when deciding on your next read. Even if these aren't your normal genres, I think the story speaks well for itself and you'll enjoy it anyways. It's about not taking life too seriously and living in the moment. Not to be cliché but life is too short, rules are so meant to be broken! Let loose and ride a rollercoaster or kiss a stranger... Whatever floats your boat!

“Remember. It’s possible for life to be scary and fun at the same time. The scariness is the fun.”

Review:
"Bad boy country was a look Charlie Tucker wore well."

Rachel Harris. There's is nothing in this world I could say to give her the praise she rightfully deserves. There's just this thing she does when writing a story that I can't explain. It's beautiful, witty, and makes me want more. Every. Single. Time. You're Still the One has been such a delight to read. Immediately I fell in love with both Charlie and Arabella. Their the epitome of opposites attract. Ella is sweet, shy, and the ultimate good girl. Charlie is the sexy bassist for a country music band, bad boy extraordinaire and he's in deep shit for a misunderstanding with the mayors daughter. Causing him to make nice. 

"They needed to write guidebooks for this sort of thing. The Idiot’s Guide to Flirting With the Man of Your (Literal) Dreams Who Clearly Doesn’t Know You Exist."

He the reasons for Charlie swearing off women (for the time being) is so that he can get a program together for teens with depression. He needs his boss and the owner of the record label to be part of the board and invest in what he's got planned for the teens. Right after Charlie says no no to anymore women, a beautiful brunette stumbles into his life. Even though he should know exactly who Arabella is, he doesn't even recognize who she is. Which is just as well, considering she wants to finally tell Charlie how she feels. 

Flirting. Telling Charlie about a list of things to do before summer is over... Including a hot and sweet kiss; the two will try as they may to stay professional around each other. But it's looking like that shit isn't going to fly. For obvious reasons, duh! I was only a few chapters in when I realized that one, I didn't want this book to ever end, and two, went to straight to goodreads to see if there were another one after this book. Imagine my joy when I saw that this WAS the first book in a new series! Ha. 

"Here he was, standing in a room filled with people, a good third eyeing him like a piece of chocolate, and yet he felt completely alone."

Charlie. Charlie. Charlie. He's my FAVORITE type of book boyfriend for the sole reason that he's a musician. Damn. I go weak at the knees when reading about a man up on stage either singing or playing any kind of instrument. Plus he's a bad boy with a heart of gold. Another one of my weaknesses. It's hard not to see why Ella has been in love with him for so many years. 

I recommend this book and any other book by Rachel Harris to everyone. Well if you're younger than eighteen...make sure you have an adults permission for the adult books. Not that they're are bad but they may have some things that aren't suitable for children. Anyway, I can't tell you enough: GO READ RACHEL HARRIS. And keep in mind this fair warning, you will fall in love.

She was totally stressing.

This wasn’t anything like she’d imagined. First of all, Tyler and Sherry’s neighborhood was darling, but when Charlie had suggested their home as the ideal location to go skinny-dipping, she’d envisioned a huge estate with a pool to rival the Playboy Mansion. What she got was a cute, modest, old-style, southern home on a quiet cul-de-sac.

Charlie had explained that this was typical Magnolia Springs. Here, they didn’t need a huge gated community or acres and acres of land. People didn’t care about money or celebrity. The only things that mattered were how kind you were, what team you rooted for (hint: always say the Saints), and how spicy you seasoned your seafood.

While that was all well and good, and Arabella appreciated the charm of the neighborhood, he was overlooking a huge benefit from the sprawling acreage of most celebrity homes:

Seclusion.

Tyler’s neighbors surrounded him on three sides. The so-called privacy fence bordering the property didn’t do squat for those towering second-story windows. And while said windows currently all sat dark, the moon was heavy and half full in the sky. There was more than enough light reflecting off the surface if a wandering eye should awaken and decide to catch a peek.  

As for the pool in question, it was absolutely adorable with its rushing waterfall and soothing, blue-tinted underwater lights…but it was a whole lot smaller than she’d anticipated. Like, so small it could be considered a lap pool. As in she’d be practically sitting on Charlie’s lap. Naked.  

“How about this?” he said, voice low and husky in the dark. “I’ll go first.”

The rustle of fabric in the otherwise quiet night told her he was stripping down, and Arabella squeezed her eyes shut against the sudden whirlwind of emotions. That was the other thing about this little adventure of hers. It was no longer a solo dip.

Charlie would be naked, too.

A hiss of fabric sounded behind her, and Ella’s heart pounded in her ears.

Correction: Charlie was naked. Right now. Just a few feet away. Swinging free in the nonexistent breeze.

Heaven help me.  

Soft footsteps crept toward her, and Arabella almost swallowed her tongue. Touching his bare skin would be easy—so easy—as easy as stretching a hand back and extending her fingertips. Her hands clenched at her sides.

How many nights had she lain in bed, dreaming of this very scenario? Or if not this scenario, one almost identical? Sexual tension crackling in the air, a naked Charlie within reaching distance and breathing heavily, waiting to see what she’d do next.

Of course, there were two major differences between fantasy and reality. In those dreams, Ella had also been naked…and Charlie had wanted her, too.
