Synopsis

As head of Blackline Academy, I spent my days training with the elite, getting them ready for the one thing each hopes to gain in the end, the chance to call themselves a Blaze.

I had it all figured out, knew exactly who and what I wanted in life, then he came back, determined more than ever to prove me wrong.

He's forced his way into my world, demanded my attention no matter the cost.

He pushed until I fell.
And then he knocked me down.

But nothing is ever as it seems.

Hate is where it started.

Love is where it was headed.
Lies are what destroyed everything.

Now I'm left to wonder...did I fall for the wrong Blaze?

Review:

“I know what I see in her baby blues, and buried deep beneath her feelings for someone who doesn’t deserve her and will never want her like I do... is me.

Her antihero.”

Holyyyyy...that was GOOD! The angst. I’m surprised my body came out alive after all that angst and the twists and the turns. Sure, there was a lot hat didn’t surprise me in the least. But there was also a lot that had my jaw dropping. You guys, have a fire extinguisher near by because damn.

Alec and Oakley have known each other their entire lives. That thin line of love and hate really is very thin. But the thing is, is that our boy Alec has only ever seen Oakley. While she only had eyes for another man, Rowan...her best friend.

Things aren’t always what they seem. And as I mentioned earlier, there’s stuff you’ll probably guess but then again there’ll be things that may surprise you. Alec is one sexy man. He’s a total alpha that will piss you off. I’ve seen reviews that have said they wanted to throw their kindle, and I think I have to agree.

I wanted to throw my kindle so bad.

I didn’t obviously. I had to know what happened even if my heart was shattering. Even though the characters made me want to shake them. I wanted to scream at times. I shed a tear or two... I have to tell you though—I loved ever damned minute of it!

Oakley. My girl. She’s badass in every way that counts. You want a strong heroine? This is her. You want a woman that doesn’t take shit from any man, including one she may be falling for? You got her. How about one that’s brave, kind, and completely amazing? I can keep on convincing you but I won’t. Get this book! And prepare...

When you have a man, when he’s yours”—he inches forward, placing his hands on each side of me, locking me in place—“you’ll feel it everywhere. You’ll heat up at the thought of him, melt from his words, and you’ll fucking burn when he touches you. When he’s yours, he’ll fuck you ‘til you’re spent, and still ... you’ll beg for more. Crave more. Always more.

Excerpt

I glance to his abs, and they stare back at me, mocking my inability to touch them.

But do I want to touch …

I take two steps closer, and Alec laughs, instantly pulling me from my haze. My eyes rise to meet his.

“Guess I finally got my answer.”

“What answer?”

“From this morning. If he fucked you good, if he was even capable of it, your body wouldn’t be begging for me.” He licks his lips, slightly tilting his head. “Or maybe it would …”

“What exactly do you think I’m begging for?” I ask, half-hoping he enlightens me, half-hoping he walks away, and not sure either is right.

“More than you’re ready for, but, Oakley”—he walks the rest of the way to me, bringing his heated body a mere inch from mine—“get ready,” he warns.

I swallow, licking my lips. God, this guy makes me nervous. “For?”

Dark, dangerous green eyes command mine.

“Get ready for what?” I try again, my words blowing across his lips; they’re so close.
Too close.

“For me, Oakley,” he whispers, those eyes of his skimming over every inch of my face before coming back to mine. “It’s time.”

Blog Tour Review—TEN REASONS TO STAY by Candace Knoebel

We are thrilled to be sharing with you the release of TEN REASONS TO STAY by Candace Knoebel. TEN REASONS TO STAY is the first standalone in the Risky Hearts duet and fans of contemporary romance won't want to miss this one! Be sure to grab your copy today!

About TEN REASONS TO STAY

One day a week—Thursdays—my husband and I could do whatever or whomever we pleased. Protection was non-negotiable. And no matter what, we had to be home by midnight. Jack was the one who wanted an open marriage, but we were supposed to keep things simple. No strings. No commitments. It seemed so easy…until it wasn’t. Devilishly handsome Cole Blackwater was only supposed to be a fling, but everything about him made me feel alive. Wanted. Seen. When I realized he was my husband’s boss, I should have broken things off right then…but I didn’t. One day a week, I could pretend that I was his and he was mine…until Cole wanted more. But how could I decide between the man I’d promised to love, honor, and cherish, and the man who tempted me to break every single vow I’d made?

 Review-
This was the type of book that grabbed at me immediately. An open marriage? I mean, I know some may be a bit uncomfortable but I just had to know more. Corrine is devastated the day she learns her husband wants to venture into an open marriage arrangement. She loves him deeply but it’s either succumb to his demands or risk him doing it anyway. Such a lovely husband, yes?

The night she decides to look into that lifestyle she meets Cole on Tinder. But as fate would have it, he’s the husband’s new boss. Her life is changed forever when they move to the Upper East Side in New York. There Corrine and Jack decide to make an arrangement for Thursday—and only Thursday—to do whatever and whomever they want. Another rule, they have to be home by midnight.

Do these type of arrangements ever end up working in the end? Lines start to get blurred and at every stop, it feels as if someone is being betrayed. I felt the angst, the heartbreak, and the frustration while reading this story. Frustration for the heroine and her husband. The storyline was interesting but the forbidden aspect of it was completely delicious.

It kind delves into the question about marriage, love, and knowing when something just isn’t right. No matter how long you try to hold on to it. It surely made me think. Open marriage is not something I would ever be able to do. Then again, Corrine never saw herself being in this type of relationship either. I guess you never know what it’s like until you’re put into that situation. Good thing my husband doesn’t like to share ha-ha.

There’s no question about whose team I was on and in the end I’m glad the best man won out. If these types of plots make you uncomfortable, this may not be for you. But I hope you try it out because it’s not as bad as you would think. The book reminded me of the What He Doesn’t Know duet by Kandi Steiner. Two completely different books and different plot lines, but the angst and the feels were right up there with it.

If you haven’t already guessed, this book destroyed me in all the best kind of ways. Do yourself a favor and pick it up!

Blog Tour Review—SADIE by Courtney Summers

A riveting tour de force.”
 Kirkus, STARRED Review

"Summers’ novel is filled with her trademark biting commentary on sexual assault and the mistreatment of girls and women at the hands of predatory men...her hunt for Mattie’s killer is captivating, and Summers excels at slowly unspooling both Sadie’s and West’s investigations at a measured, tantalizing pace."
—Booklist, STARRED Review

“A taut, suspenseful book about abuse and power that feels personal, as if Summers, like May Beth and West, can’t take one more dead or abused girl.”
Publishers Weekly, STARRED Review

"The fresh, nuanced, and fast-moving narrative will appeal to a range of YA and new adult readers, and serves as a larger examination on the way society interacts with true crime...It's impossible to not be drawn into this haunting thriller of a book. A heartrending must-have."
School Library Journal, STARRED Review

An electrifying thriller, taut as a bowstring. A coming-of-age tale, both gritty and sensitive. A poignant drama of love and loss. This -- all this -- is SADIE: a novel for readers of any age, and a character as indelible as a scar. Flat-out dazzling." —AJ Finn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window

SADIE
By Courtney Summers

Courtney Summers is already known for her well written and dark young adult novels, earning rave starred trade reviews on every book. With a fierce and independent female lead, SADIE (September 4, 2018; Wednesday Books) continues in this vein told in part as a podcast, similar to Serial, about a missing girl determined to avenge her sister’s death. A propulsive and harrowing read that will keep you riveted until the last page, Courtney Summers has written the breakout book of her career.

Sadie hasn't had an easy life. Growing up on her own, she's been raising her sister Mattie in an

isolated small town, trying her best to provide a normal life and keep their heads above water.

But when Mattie is found dead, Sadie's entire world crumbles. After a somewhat botched police investigation, Sadie is determined to bring her sister's killer to justice and hits the road following a few meager clues to find him.

When West McCray—a radio personality working on a segment about small, forgotten towns in America—overhears Sadie's story at a local gas station, he becomes obsessed with finding the missing girl. He starts his own podcast as he tracks Sadie's journey, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it's too late.

As the pages turn, your heart will be in your throat the whole way. SADIEis darkly delicious and addictive, the perfect fall read. As a major Editor's Buzz Book Pick at BEA, Summers’ thriller will be the book to read this season, and in a creative twist, the first YA thriller podcast. THE GIRLS released the first episode on August 1st bringing SADIE to life in a new way by picking up the script content from the book and using the under-explored content area in the podcast area of teen listeners. Combining a haunting novel and additional material through the podcast, Summers has changed the way readers experienced books.

Review
If I know anything, it’s that Courtney Summers will leave me feeling like my world has been tipped upside down. Her stories always find a way to open my eyes. ‘Sadie’ is no different...it’s shaken me to the core. I’d like to go on record and say this deals with some heavy topics—such as sexual abuse, drug abuse, and pedophilia. It’s is a dark story about love and revenge in the name of justice. For most of the book, my heart was in my throat. I desperately wanted and needed to know what would happen.

The layout for the book was interesting because we had it told in the form of a podcast and of course, from Sadie’s POV. The podcast definitely gave me the feels of some of my actual favorite true crime podcasts such as Serial and Generation Why. West McCray is following the story of Sadie Hunter—a young woman whose disappearance after her younger sister Mattie is found brutally murdered. Girls of all ages go missing all the time but this one is different. Because there’s reason to believe that Sadie is after something...or someone.

Ever since Sadie was a child, she hasn’t lived the most glamorous life. She has a stutter that everyone makes fun of and she’s the unofficial caregiver of her little sister after their mother left them. Her life had no purpose until her sister was born. Now we follow Sadie on a terrifying journey as she strives to bring justice to one who no longer has a voice to speak up. There was so much wrong in what I read because this stuff happens every single day. Ignorance is bliss is not something we can ignore when it comes to children. So in that aspect, it was hard to read about everyday people who who hide in plain sight but are actual monsters.

Deep and at times chilling, Sadie is a story that you must read. She’s a character whose brave and strong beyond belief. While the story does end on a note that could leave some unsatisfied, I think it was the perfect one for it. I can’t recommend this book and author enough. Read it!

Blurb

Never play a game you can't win.

For Cain Kent, that rule is golden. Losing is not in his vocabulary, and up until now, everything has come easy. Football, school, girls ... his charm-laced ego may just be bigger than Texas itself.

The competition he started freshman year with his friends, to make ten notches each in their bedposts by graduation day, is practically in the bag. One more to go, and then it's off to college fame and eventually, the big time. Attachments aren't something he wants to form, but when the quiet new girl challenges him in front of his classmates, his curiosity is peaked. She would be the perfect final score, and what fun to break her in the process.

Too bad Harper Posy has no intention of being just another warm body, especially to the bad boy quarterback. Even if he does quote Forster and Huxley when no one is listening. An aspiring author herself, Cain and his hidden soft side are dangerous to her heart. She's seen men ruin her mother's dreams time and again, and she's determined to fly far away as soon as she has that diploma in her fist.

But as the school year’s end looms closer, both realize they didn’t quite understand the rules to begin with. Is winning a dirty bet worth the gamble when the stakes, or the other’s heart in this case, are so high?

Harper is the one girl who isn't up for playing games. And she just might make Cain lose. Everything.
