Promotional Tour Review feat Giveaway- Toxic Secrets and SecretsUnveiled by Jill Patten

Secrets Unveiled blurb (Secrets, 2)--
In this second and final installment, Jaxon and Courtney are forced into a world of more secrets. Some have been harbored from within, some are unknown, and some or just forming. When the truth finally does come out, will their fragile love for one another be strong enough to hold, or will the weight of deceit break the string that tethers them together?

Toxic Secrets blurb (Secrets, 1)
Secrets are meant to be kept, but sometimes those unspoken words can become toxic - destroying you and the ones you love.

Seventeen year old Courtney Peterson always thought her future would consist of marrying her high-school sweetheart, becoming a stay-at-home mom, and living a happily ever after. All that changes when she finds out the boy who stole her heart three years ago resorts to cheating. Ending that relationship will be harder than she could imagine, but she is determined to move on, agreeing to go on a blind date with the older and cryptic Jaxon.

Jaxon Vaughn blazes into town for a short visit, taking steps down a new path in life. After facing unexpected tragedies at a young age and turning to self-destruction, he aches to redeem himself by opening a bar in his grandmother’s hometown. It is there he meets the pure and soulful Courtney, whom awakens the guilt that dejectedly haunts him.

Distance and circumstances may separate them, but they are unable to ignore the chemistry that draws them together. Can their relationship survive, or will it be shattered by clingy exes, mysterious phantoms from the past and unforeseen misfortunes?

Review for Toxic Secrets:
“You disintegrate my heart…my soul…my mind…my body…
and I’m tired of feeling like I’m a piece of shit.”

Toxic Secrets has a heavy plotline that’s full of abuse, deceit, and broken hearts. Life for Courtney hasn’t been easy for the past four years. She’s just broken up with her boyfriend, Phillip, and wants to find herself again. Phillip is verbally, mentally, and
physically abusive. All she wants is just to be left alone, but Phillip has other plans.

Her best friend, Kendra, and Kendra’s boyfriend, Reed, want to set her up on a blind date with Reed’s cousin, Jaxon. Courtney finally relents much to her chagrin to go and meet this mysterious cousin.

It’s all fireworks and explosions the moment that Jaxon and Courtney meet. I immediately liked him because hello, who doesn’t like a sexy man?! Jaxon is charismatic and Courtney takes an immediate liking to him, but lets him know up front that she isn’t looking for a boyfriend. Just a friend. Riiiiiiight…

“Greek God, aka Jaxon. No lie… I swear I heard a church choir sing in the background with a ray of sun casting down over his impeccable, powerfully built body.” –Courtney

Holy shizzzz, I want to meet this Jaxon asap. Sounds like my favorite type of man.

“I’m the only sexy, funny, charming and adorable Californian
motherfucker you will ever meet.”Jaxon

The chemistry between the two is out of the world. I couldn’t help but have a funny little grin on my face the whole time I was reading the book. The banter and sexual tension keep you wanting to turn the pages.

“I want to touch you. I want to kiss you. I want to let every fucking person I come in contact with know that we are together, and not just as friends.”

Um…is it just me, or was that line hot as hell?

As much as you want to fall in love with our two main characters, the title is still going by the name Toxic Secrets. And boy is there secrets… Jaxon has a HUGE secret that I obviously can’t tell you because you need to read to find out what it is. His secret though, I can’t even tell you if I am pissed or not.

I’ll just go ahead and say it, this ended on a cliffhanger. In my opinion, a very big one! Now I am one of those readers who likes cliffhangers…it keeps things interesting. Plus I really like
Jaxon, so I don’t mind that the author is continuing the story.

Some parts were a little too cheesy for my tastes but for some reason it worked for the storyline. I was able to keep reading because the story is just that good.

I am not joking! I loved this so much. The characters, the plot, and all the secrets will keep you wanting more. I know I want more.

Thank you to After Dark Divas for setting up this amazing blog tour and another thank you to Jill Patten, for allowing me to receive a copy of the book. I feel honored to read and review such a seductive book that took me in from the first page to the very last. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I definitely have a book hangover<3

Review for Secrets Unveiled:

My only disappointment is that this has ended. I absolutely loved Secrets Unveiled. I'll tell you a little story. A couple of months ago when Toxic Secrets came out, I had a reviewer on my blog that had taken the job of reading and reviewing the book for the

blog tour.

Well...the day before the blog tour I still wasn't able to get a hold of her so I took it upon myself to read and review the book for my designated day. Best decision ever and I didn't even blink an eye that I only had a day to finish it. I was in love.

I finally got my greedy hands on Secrets Unveiled and dropped everything to read.

Let me tell you when I started this book...I could NOT put it down. The angst...oh my Lord, it made my heart race. I found myself holding my breath at times and then I found myself wanting to choke a ho. No joke.

If you remember in Toxic Secrets all the secrets that got left unanswered as well as Courtney being preggers...well you haven't seen anything yet until you read this one.

I can't really go into too much detail because I don't want to be giving any plot devices away. But Jaxon and Courtney have had one hell of a rude.

You like drama? Good, there's tons in SU.

You like sizzling hot sexual chemistry? Well hell yeah you came to the right book.

Hot boy? Check check check

Did I want to throw my iPad out the window at times? Ummm YES!!!

Good plot? Yup

Characters? Fun and endearing

Jaxon and Courtney's story is heartbreaking. Don't go into the story thinking that it's all going to be easy, it's not. My heart felt for them. It's up to you to find out his their story ends.

Author Bio~~
Jill Patten was born a Yankee, but raised a southerner. She lives in the small town of Mayberry, North Carolina which was made famous by a popular TV show back in the sixties. (Maybe there will one day be a statue of her at the end of Main Street. Ha! A girl can dream, right?)
Jill has always loved to read, even during reading labs in middle school for reading comprehension. Judy Blume was her first author she hero-worshipped, maturing to revere the works of Stephen King. With all the fantastic authors today, she simply cannot choose a favorite. Her taste is very eclectic and she loves almost all genres. When she's not captivated by her fictional characters, she spends time with her sweet husband and two beautiful children.
Music is her muse. Jill also loves elephants, sarcasm, and anything made with sugar, especially sweet tea. She enjoys all things rude and crude and laughs at stuff she probably shouldn't. She has been accused of being bossy a time or two, but doesn't really see it herself.
All in all, Jill is just a small town girl in this great big world trying to enable your book addiction.

~~Excerpt~~
My nerve endings buzzed with agitation. I needed a release. I needed an out. I needed to swim, but I was too fucked up to get in the pool. The fucking cocaine had me on edge, and I needed a downer. My eyes jumped back over to the glove box again.
Making a spontaneous decision, I turned the key in the ignition, bringing my truck to life. She hummed loudly, which only intensified my edginess even more. Troy was going to be pissed I was bailing on him, but I was pretty sure Val had already filled him in on the state she found me in the parking lot. I couldn’t take a chance on going in there feeling wired up like a live electrical current. One little remark would be all it would take to set me off. Fighting with Troy wasn’t something I wanted to add to my plate right now.
Somehow I made it home without killing myself or someone else. Leaning across the bench seat, I opened my glove box and made the irrational decision to take the ludicrous contents with me.
Fuck, I needed a dog or some kind of pet who would greet me with unconditional love when I returned home. My loneliness was swallowing me into the depths of perdition. Hell fed on all the black and grey that crept throughout my being.

Blog Tour Review feat Giveaway: Heart Shaped Rock by Laura Roppe

                                                   Heart Shaped Rock
                                                     by Laura Roppe
                                               Release Date: May 2014

Summary from Goodreads:
“If you liked the music collaboration of Maybe Someday, you’ve got to check out Heart Shaped Rock.” — New York Times best-selling author of Maybe Someday, Colleen Hoover

"Laura Roppé has written a moving and emotional novel of first love, accurately capturing the voice and mind of a dramatic and emotional sixteen year old girl caught in a maelstrom of grief and loss, love and heartbreak. And then there’s Dean…you'll just have to read the book, ‘cause I can't do him justice in a few short sentences.” –Jasinda Wilder, New York Times and USA Today best-selling author of Falling into You

Sometimes a shattered heart needs to sing to love again . . . Sixteen year old singer-songwriter Shaynee Sullivan hasn't so much as touched her guitar since her mom died six months ago. In fact, Shaynee hasn't felt like doing much of anything lately, except maybe playing Whack-a-Mole on her "emotionally intelligent" brother's head. But when she meets a gorgeous and surprising rocker named Dean, her shattered heart begins to mend . . . and then burst at the seams. Heart-wrenching, heart-warming, and sometimes even heart-racing, Heart Shaped Rock will leave you laughing through tears and rooting for love in all its forms.

Hear the original music performed in Heart Shaped Rock at www.LauraRoppe.com. All music available on iTunes.

My Review:
Can a book make you fall even more in love? I don't think so. Heart Shaped Rock is a poignant story about one girl's journey through the most terrible heart ache ever and finding love in this fabulous, messed up world. I could tell from the very beginning that this story would break my heart in two but I was going to read it no matter what.

We follow the Shaynee as she deals with the grief and loss of losing her mother to cancer. Her mother was that woman you see on the sidewalk that has a smile on her face and makes everyone just feel good about themselves. I felt the loss through the pages. An author will have a fan for life just by making me feel something; even if that something hurts me.

The romance is really what did me in. Especially, Dean! I mean come on, how can you not love him? He is a musician, he's kind and understanding. Oh, and not to mention he's hot. Jared, the other love interest is also hot but... he just didn't do it for me. You can clearly tell who it is that Shaynee wants.

The story as a whole is simply amazing. You'll swoon, cry, fall in love, get mad, and just appreciate life in general. The music that goes along with the story is original and awesome songs that you listen to while reading.

You won't find a more heart-shattering, beautiful book. Coming of age stories are some of my favorites and Heart Shaped Rock was no different!!

4.5 stars

As they grow closer, he discovers that convincing K.C. to get out from her mother’s shadow is hard, but revealing the darkest parts of his soul is nearly impossible.…

Excerpt:

(unedited, subject to change prior publication)

“You’re afraid of yourself,” he said flatly. “Not me.”

And then he backed up, looking down at me." And that’s why you’re gutless, K.C." All the softness from his voice was now gone. “Now I have to shower, and you need to leave.”

And he turned around and strode for the men’s locker room.

I shook my head.

He was wrong. I wasn't gutless. Why did he keep saying that?

I sniffled and cleared my throat, standing tall. “Maybe I just don’t want you,” I blurted out and damn near smiled when he spun around, looking surprised. “Maybe I just don’t want you, Jax. Did you ever consider there might be one woman in this world that doesn’t pant after you?”

And I breathed out a small laugh as I spun around and headed for the door.

But before I even reached the handle, an arm circled my waist, yanking me back into a warm body, and I gasped just as my hair was swiped to the side and a hot mouth was on my neck.

Everything fell apart. My knees buckled, but he held me tight as my eyes closed, and my neck fell to the side, inviting him in.

Oh, my God!

It felt so good. I couldn’t think. I couldn’t pull away. I couldn’t stop him. His mouth was like hot water pouring over me, creating a blanket of heat. His teeth grazed my skin, rough but not hard, and he slid his lips and teeth over the sensitive area under my ear, and I wasn’t sure if he was kissing me or getting ready to eat me.

He left short but deep kisses across my neck, at the base, and under my ear. His tongue flicked my ear lobe right before his other hand reached around and turned my chin to him.

And then his mouth was on mine. I moaned and gasped, probably sounding like I was in pain, but I couldn’t help it. The tornado between my legs made my skin tingle.

Jax’s tongue found mine, and I groaned into his mouth, inhaling his scent that reminded me of summer. Of sweet cotton candy on a Ferris Wheel and cool water on hot skin.

The heat, the wetness, the taste, everything was hard and fast as his lips worked mine.

Keeping the same arm around my waist, his other hand left my face and dove straight under my skirt and into my panties.

“Oh,” I whimpered a muffled groan into his mouth that still held me hostage. What was he doing? I needed to stop this!

But my eyes fluttered as his smooth fingers dipped into my center, swirling the wetness already there around my clit.

And then his mouth left mine, and he yanked me up off my feet and growled in my ear.

“You’re so wet for me, K.C.” His voice was hard and threatening. “You're gutless, helpless, and a fucking liar, too.”

And then he dropped me on my ass, and I fell to the mats, shaking with confusion.

All I heard behind me was a door open and close, and I knew I was alone.

Bringing a shaky hand to my mouth, I sucked in air like it was going out of style. “Holy shit,” I whispered.

Synopsis:

Music major Maddie Taylor seems to have her life all figured out. She's just finished her junior year of college, has a summer internship lined up with the LA Philharmonic, and plans to go to grad school to write movie scores. Only her roommates know she practices guitar every night and secretly dreams of a louder life. But geeky girls like her don't get to be rock stars.

Tattooed singer Jared Cross has a new girl every week, but when he catches Maddie playing one of his songs, she attracts his attention in an unexpected way. His band needs a fourth member for The Sound, a reality TV show competition--and he wants her. Though Maddie refuses to be another notch on Jared's bedpost, she agrees to risk everything for the chance to be a rock star.

Once on the show, Maddie discovers there's more to Jared behind his flirty smile, and with each performance their attraction becomes impossible to ignore. When the show pressures Jared to flaunt his player image, they're forced to keep their relationship secret, but Maddie can't help but want something real.

As the competition heats up, Jared will do whatever it takes for his band to win, and Maddie must decide if following her dream is worth losing her heart.

Excerpt:

Jared slid his arm into mine, and every nerve in my body woke up. “Come on, I’ll take you back to your room. I need to walk off some of this energy before bed anyway.”

“You don’t need to do this,” I said as we moved to the elevator together. “I can get back by myself.”

“I’m not going anywhere until I make sure you get to your room safely. I can’t have my guitarist injuring herself again.” He winked and hit the elevator button while I leaned against him, taking comfort in his strength. His breath ruffled my hair as he quietly added, “Besides, I’m worried about you.”

The elevator door opened, and we stumbled in. “Really, Jared, I’m fine. It’s just a twisted ankle, not that big a deal—”

The door shut and his lips were on mine, cutting me off mid-sentence. His kiss was tentative and searching, a question he wanted me to answer, but I was so surprised I just stood there while my brain caught up to what was happening.

He pulled away and ran a hand through his dark hair. “Sorry. I’ve wanted to do that forever, and when I saw you fall…”

My mouth opened but no sound came out. I swallowed and tried again. “You’ve wanted to do that forever?”

“I know it’s a bad idea. We have to stay single while we’re on the show, and the guys would kill me if they found out, and you’re into that Sean guy anyway…” His voice trailed off, and he looked away.

I’d never seen Jared be anything but cool and confident, and it sent a thrill through me, knowing I’d done that to him. The elevator didn’t move, waiting for us to hit a button, but suddenly I didn’t want to go back to my room anymore. I grabbed the collar of Jared’s jacket and pulled him down to my mouth, kissing him hard, showing him that he was the one I wanted.

We broke apart long enough for me to whisper, “It is a bad idea, but I don’t care.”

“Good. Because I can’t resist you any longer.” And then our mouths met again.

We kissed like we were drowning and our only hope of living was each other. He devoured my mouth with his tongue and lips while I tangled my fingers into his thick hair, drawing him closer. Knowing we shouldn’t be doing this only gave our passion a desperate edge, a recklessness that had us gasping and clawing at each other, like we had to cram everything into this one brief moment we were alone. His hands slid down to cup my butt and lift me to his height, my back slamming against the side of the elevator, my skirt riding up to my hips. While he pinned me to the wall and teased me with his mouth, I smoothed my hands across his rough jaw, down his neck, along his broad shoulders. After weeks of fighting my desire for Jared, I needed to touch every inch of him, with my fingers, with my lips, with my entire body.

The elevator started moving, though neither of us had pushed a button. It said, “Lobby,” and reality came crashing back, like a bucket of water had been tossed on us. We broke apart to opposite corners, breathing heavily. I yanked my skirt down just as the door opened.

Synopsis:

Love is ugly and secrets will destroy you.

KAT

I don’t beg.
I don’t cry.
And I don’t give second chances.

Ream, the lead guitarist of the rock band Tear Asunder, deserves a gold medal for best dick move ever when he ran the moment he discovered my secret after two days of hot sex. Then he brings some chick to my coming home party from the hospital—after being shot. I hate him.

Until …

Ream’s six foot two frame unfolds out of the car after being gone on tour for eight months. I stared. And in my defense, any girl would stare. It would almost be rude not to because Ream was the type of guy who stood out. Not because he was loud and obnoxious. No, it was because he was the complete opposite. Subtle and dangerously quiet. If he spoke, you’d better hope he liked you because otherwise you’d be falling at his feet begging for mercy. Except me … I don’t beg—ever. But when our eyes locked, it was Ream’s steady confidence that had my nerves shooting off like jet sprinklers.

Then…

Ream told me he didn’t need a second chance because he was still working on his first.

REAM

Sex is ugly. It’s using someone for your own narcissistic pleasure. I did it and I hated it—until her. She was unfuckinexpected. Then I had to wreck our beginning with my screwed up past. I don’t deserve her, but I’m selfish and I’m taking her anyway. This is who I am and it’s too late to change me.

*Warning contains violence, sexual content, and coarse language. Mature audiences 18+*

A contemporary romance with lots of angst and a taste of dark.

My Review:

Though Overwhelmed can technically be read as a stand-alone, I do highly recommend reading Torn from You first. There is a lot that gets referenced throughout this story and I really think that it’ll help give you a better appreciation and understanding of the character relationships found here. And don’t go into this expecting a dark read like the first book. Ream is not Logan and this is not a recycled story. That being said, I really think you’ll enjoy it just as I did!

While Emily and Logan were away in what they knew was a dangerous situation, Kat and Ream found solace in each other. What began as a beautiful friendship soon blossomed into more, surprising them both. They were very guarded people and never expected to let someone in even a little, but you can’t always control who inches their way into your heart.

But then a long kept secret is revealed and everything falls apart. Ream, not knowing how to handle things, storms out, leaving Kat hurt and angry. While he was away on tour, she had plenty of time to build more walls around her heart, ensuring that no one would be able to get close enough to hurt her again.

Now he’s home and things are more confusing than ever. He wants her back and will stop at nothing to have her again. She knows that he has secrets of his own, but can she learn to trust him again? Just as things start to look up for them both, his twisted past catches up to them and threatens to ruin everything once and for all. Will they be able to make it through hand in hand, or will everything prove to be too overwhelming for them both?

When I saw the animosity that Kat and Ream had for each other in Torn, I knew that I wanted their story. I had to know what transpired between the two to make them act this way and I had a lot of thoughts floating around in my head. I was pleased to be very wrong with each and every guess that I had made.

I wasn't a huge Ream fan when I was first introduced to him, but I’m pleased to say that I now hold a very special place for him in my heart. He’s a complex and broken man, and I continuously wondered about the things that he had gone through to make him into the man that he is today.

“Sex is primal. And it’s ugly as hell. I know that better than anyone. But with you … with you it’s all beauty. You managed to obliterate the ugly, Kat.”

Kat is strong willed and very guarded. She’s a great friend to those around her but you could tell that something was holding her back. I absolutely loved watching Ream break down all of her defenses until she had nothing left to hide.

One thing that can help make or break a story in my eyes is the supporting characters and this series definitely has one of the best group of friends ever. Crisis, my personal favorite, was not only there for Kat when she needed a friend, but he also brought a fun, comedic vibe to the table.

“Woot!” Crisis yelled and threw his arms in the air. “Busted. Next time, eyes on the road instead of the babe.”

Nashoda has a way of pulling you deep into the world that she’s created. Her stories are captivating and have just the right amount of sugar and spice blended together so it doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth. In fact, it’ll leave you wanting more.

Overwhelmed by You gets 5 well deserved stars. It had amazing characters, a great story, and a twist that kept things interesting. If you’re looking for a fantastic read that’s sure to hold your attention then I recommend getting this NOW.

And be prepared ... Overwhelmed features the prologue for Perfect Chaos which is Deck and Georgie's story, and it's definitely going to leave you wanting more!!!

Excerpt:

“You’re a very dirty man.”

“Filthy,” he corrected me. He smacked my ass lightly, causing me to jump. “Oh, that’s just fucking beautiful.”

He did it again and again, not enough to hurt but enough to sting. Each time, he licked the place where his handprint would have been. Then, with one hand he gently pried my ass cheeks open. I couldn’t help but cringe.

“You need to relax,” he whispered. “This won’t hurt. And I’m sure you took a bath this morning, didn’t you?” I murmured yes in response. “Then you’re clean and you have nothing to worry about. As for me, I’d take you anyway I can. It’s all exquisite to me.”

He was right. He was filthy.

“Relax, Luisa,” he said again. “Relax.”

And so I tried.

The first contact from his tongue made me shudder. The sensation was so entirely new to me, but what wasn’t at this point. Yet his mouth, lips, tongue, were all warm and wet and gentle and I found my body immediately relaxing into the steady motion. I pushed aside all thoughts about how impure this was.
