Review:
The Dark King starts off beautifully. Devilyn has turned dark and is now King. But his love for Caroline never falters. 

Caroline doesn't remember her time with Devilyn and goes on through life as the way she was living before she ever met him. Obviously the two love birds can't stay away from each other. Namely Devilyn, no matter how hard he tries. 

I loved everything about this book and all the new characters we get to meet. All of your favorite characters from the first book are also back and better than ever. 

TDK leaves you wanting more. It's action packed and fast paced with the wonderful touch of romance. I'm more than happy where the direction of the book is going. Watching all the characters grow and learn to deal with their demons was gratifying and realistic. 

Make sure you pick up this sequel because it definitely delivers with a bang!

She looks me over, and I love the fact that she’s checking me out. I don’t know why I’m so drawn to her, but I am, and I want to get to know her better, at least where the bedroom’s concerned. Eventually, she extends her hand, and I give a firm handshake, the kind she wanted when we first met. “Please, Kale, call me Lucy.”

Shaking her hand, I say it out loud. “Lucy. I like it.”

“That’s fortunate since I’m stuck with it. Okay, Montgomery. As much as I love flirting with a hot ass soldier in the parking lot of an elementary school, I’ve got to get going. Maybe I’ll see you around?”

She starts to walk away, but I grab her hand, reeling her back in. I’m not ready for her to go, yet I don’t want to seem like some crazy stalker guy.

“Can I see you again? You know, outside of an elementary school?” I ask, my eyes bearing down into hers, begging for her to say yes.

She hesitates, and I’m afraid she’s about to say no when she finally responds. “I don’t date. I’m not looking for anything serious, so if that’s what you’re looking for, I’m the wrong girl.”

My cock practically sings at her words. A no strings attached relationship with a hot teacher right before I deploy? I couldn’t have asked for better luck.

“I don’t do relationships, either, Lucy. I just want to get to know you and to have some fun. No feelings, no strings, no nothing,” I tell her, and watch as a look of relief washes over her.

She starts digging in her purse and I watch as she scribbles something on a piece of paper before hanging it to me. “Number’s right there. Call me when you’re feeling adventurous,” she says. Before I can say anything, she spins around and swiftly walks away, leaving me to wonder just how adventurous she can be.

My Review:

When Kale Montgomery and Lucy Dawson first met, they were immediately drawn together. Neither one looking for a relationship, they decided no strings attached sex would be PERFECT! That’s right. Friends with benefits - something casual, something fun … something that won’t get messy. Or so they thought.

Let me start off by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed Inflame. It was a cute, funny read that also had its share of heart touching moments.

Kale is the kind of guy that I would want by my side. Was he perfect? No. He certainly had his faults, but he has such a heart of gold that you’re easily able to look past his idiotic moments. To say that I was team Kale would be an understatement. As I was reading this novel, I became protective of him and found myself threatening certain characters with a frying pan to the head if they kept trying to interfere with him and Lucy.

Speaking of Lucy, I love her. I really do. But there were times when I just wanted to tie her down to a chair and smack some sense into her. She’s a really fun, spunky character, and you’re able to see two very different sides to her. I’ll also never look at a scantron test in the same way again.

Though this can be read as a standalone, characters from both Ignite and Incinerate will be present here. You get to see more Jace, Lexi, Knox, and Charlie and I am always so grateful to see more of them! Their friendship with one another is always a highlight and something that I look forward to.

This was a 5 star read for me. I was invested in the story, cared about the characters, and was a tad bit upset when I got to the end because there was nothing left for me to read.

Tessa is definitely growing as an author and it shines through with each new book that she releases. With captivating stories that hold my interest, and characters that are both lovable and unique in their own way, I will continue to buy each book that she writes.

SCENE 1 No more than two minutes could have passed, two of the most terrifying minutes I’d ever had. The left side of my face was numb with cold. My lips and hands ached too. I couldn’t seem to make anything move.

I fought to see past the crowd into the parking lot, spotting him instantly. He’d just struggled to his feet and was staring right at me, his chin dripping blood. The people scurrying about and the cars streaming through the slush faded. Nothing but the two of us existed.

Memories flooded my mind, of the quiet riot he was, of the secret crush I’d had on him, and the extraordinary friendship we’d shared so many years ago. As fast as those images came, others replaced them.

I was thrust back to the crime scene, back to Mother’s corpse and the shirtless eighteen-year-old roaring obscenities while Sheriff Gray and a deputy dragged him away in handcuffs.

My Review:

Trace Dawson and Shannon Bradford were best friends when they were younger. Then Shannon’s mother was murdered and he went to jail for the crime. Now, twelve years later, he’s released and the two come face to face yet again. Will they be able to look beyond the past in order to see what the future holds, or will the pent up anger and unresolved feelings consume them?

I found myself to be drawn to both the story and the characters, and couldn’t believe that this was a debut novel for the author. You have two people that had cared deeply for one another trying to navigate past their anger and resentment to try and get to the bottom of what had really happened.

I found Trace to be one of my favorite characters. He was a little rough around the edges and he still held a torch for Shannon. You could tell that he often warred with himself where she was concerned, but he was constantly there for her, no matter what. He was an unexpected hero and I loved both the past and present day version of him.

Shannon was a bit indecisive throughout parts of the story, and though that drove me batty at times, I was able to understand where she was coming from. I can’t imagine not being able to pull from my own memories … to have everything just be a bit of a blur. And though she didn’t know what to make of the situation, she trusted her heart and continued to help Trace. It was sweet and endearing, and I loved that they had so much history between them.

Within Temptation is a great blend of suspense, drama, mystery and romance all weaved into one fantastic story. This was definitely a 5 star read for me and I can’t wait to see what Tanya comes up with next. She’s definitely been added to my list of authors that I need to watch.

Excerpt 1 I can’t take my lips off her. I need her so much right now. I’m starving for her lips. I can’t catch my breath, but I can’t stop either. I need her to feel how much I love her, need her to know how much I need her and that everything I said was a fucking lie. It was all the fear of not being able to live up to her expectations, the horror of disappointing her. I pushed her away instead of talking to her. But fuck, I am happy she’s here and that she’s all right. She’s here in my arms and I’m not letting her go. Never again.

I’m such a fucking mess, and still she loves me. I have no fucking clue why, but that’s why I love her. She loves me completely, unconditionally, so much that she can’t stand the thought of me even having the slightest scratch on me. I know I’m a bastard for earning money with fighting, but it’s the only thing I can do, and I’ll make sure I’ll be damn good at it. If she can’t see me get hurt, then I won’t let myself get hurt. I’ll make sure it never happens. I’ll train and fight until I can knockout everyone in my path with her watching me, smiling, proud.

Smelling her, I take in her scent in with eagerness, wanting her so close, holding her isn’t even enough anymore. My fingers slide down her neck to her spine and down to her waist as I turn her around, still kissing her. I’m slowly taking her back to the car, not taking my lips off her. Entangling her fingers through my hair, she lets me push her backward until we reach the hood of the car. I’ve not been the best at finding directions when I have my fucking eyes closed. Kissing her is more important than seeing where I’m going.

She bumps against the hood, and I put my arms around her, making sure she can’t slip away. I’m not letting her out of my sight. Not anymore. Her plump, pink lips are so luscious … so soothing … so volatile for me. They turn me into something I shouldn’t be right now, but I can’t help myself.

Planting my hands on the hood, I trap her inside my arms and ravish her mouth. I can’t get enough of her, can’t get enough of her sweetness, her passion, her spark, her flame. I need her love right now.

“God … I want you so much right now, I can’t stop,” I murmur against her mouth, nipping at her lips, catching them with my teeth.

“I want you too. Don’t stop,” she whispers, and then she drags me closer by my shirt.

“Hmm …” I moan into her mouth, but then take my lips off her again. If I don’t stop now, I’ll turn into that beast again. I know, because I’ve been there before. She does that to me. Especially now, because I haven’t seen her for a while, and now that I’ve finally got my hands on her I’m not sure I can hold back. I don’t even want to, but I’m forcing myself to stop. It’s not right to take it further now. Not after what we just went through.

“We’re soaked,” I say.

“Yeah …” The way she says it sends shivers down my spine. It’s like she’s saying she’s ‘wet’ in a whole different way. Exhilarating.

“No, I mean, we should get back to the car.”
