Review: Night Owl (The Night Owl Trilogy) by M. Pierce

Love is unstoppable...

At twenty-eight, Matt Sky has the perfect life. He has a beautiful girlfriend, a massive inheritance, and four national bestsellers -- all penned under his airtight alias, M. Pierce.

At twenty-seven, Hannah Catalano has a train wreck. Her boyfriend is a deadbeat and her job is abysmal.

Matt and Hannah meet online as writing partners. Their relationship is safe, anonymous, and innocent...

Until Matt sees a picture of Hannah.

Hannah's picture sparks an attraction Matt is powerless to ignore. When circumstance brings Matt and Hannah together, the strangers begin a love story that's passionate, poignant, unforgettable, and unstoppable.

Seriously, you guys HAVE to read this!!!

I one-clicked this book last night and that was pretty much me kissing any ideas of an early night goodbye! Why? Because there was no way in hell I could set this book down once I started.

“No pictures. No specifics, no last name, no phone number. Nothing. I don’t want to know you, and I don’t want you to know me. We write together online, that’s it. I’m not looking for a new friend. I’m looking for a writing partner.”

This was what Matt was looking for when he met Hannah online. It was supposed to be easy, professional; nothing more. He didn't want real world ties. No pictures, no full names, no fun facts about one another, and certainly no personal questions.

Then the unexpected happens. Matt breaks his own rule and asks what Hannah is wearing; the event later causing him to disconnect from the internet. He stays away for a week before booting up his laptop again, and when he does, he finds an e-mail from Hannah’s personal account; one that includes a last name and her picture. This throws Matt off and he can’t help but find himself drawn to Hannah, wanting to talk to her more and more.

I could talk more about the book and where it goes from there, but I won’t. I began reading this book without too much information on it, and that was all a part of the fun. Not knowing what to expect.

Matt … oh, what can I say about Matt? He’s complex and is often an asshole. Really, even Hannah’s sister describes him as being “a liiittle bit of an asshole,” and that was only after having a two minute phone conversation with him! He can go from being happy and carefree one minute, to being closed off and shutting everyone out the next.

Hannah is someone that I absolutely loved. She has spunk and isn't afraid to speak her mind. She breaks down all of Matt’s defenses and makes him do things he normally wouldn't do. Makes him want things he usually doesn't think about.

As individuals I liked the characters, but when they got together? Oh my God, can you say HOT? This book definitely delivers on the scorching hot, erotic scenes, and for a bit I was worried that that was all this book was going to be. Amazing sex scenes blended together, not really going anywhere. But it wasn't. As the story continued to unravel, things started to happen. And let me tell you, it sure pulled on my heart strings.

This was a 5 star read for me - I enjoyed it THAT much! If you like amazing chemistry between characters and stories in which people have to overcome obstacles, then this book is for you. I do recommend you start reading this book at a decent hour though, so you’re not kept up all night because you refuse to put it down like I did!

 Excerpt –

“I’m going to the ladies’ room,” Simone announces. As she goes to stand, her hand gently squeezes my erection under the table. She leans in and whispers, “Care to join me?”

I give her a subtle nod and watch her ass shimmy towards the restrooms. I adjust myself under the table and stand.

“I’m going to check out the restrooms too.”

“Yeah, I bet you are!” Brad laughs at the obvious fact that I’m about to go get laid.

“You know. I really hoped you two would do more than just fuck. I should have known better.” Sophie shakes her head in mock disgust.

I lean over and kiss her cheek. “I’ll be back,” I say with a wink and head to the ladies’ room.

Inside a find the place is empty, but for Simone who’s standing in a stall door with a come hither look on her face.

I walk over to her and she pulls me by my shirt into the stall, immediately pushing me against the wall and laying a hot kiss on me.

Never one to take a hot and willing girl for granted, I help her pull my shirt from my jeans and undo my belt. Her long, lithe fingers make expert work of my button and zipper before pushing my jeans down my legs. When her hand reaches into my boxers and wraps around my cock, I clench my teeth to stave off the fact that I’m already ready to explode. It’s been a while and the fact that she pounced on me has me overly excited.

We continue kissing while she strokes me hard and fast. We are all teeth, tongue and lips. This girl has me so damn hot right now. I lift her skirt up and find tiny, purple thong underwear. I ease the scrap of material to the side and work my fingers into her wetness. She parts her legs slightly, allowing me to plunge my finger into her. My thumb rubs her clit, while my finger pumps in and out, rubbing along her swollen tissues.

I watch as Simone’s head falls back and a load moan leaves her mouth. Her hand tightens on my cock while she strokes me and I clench my ass muscles to stop from coming in her hand.

“I need you to fuck me, Jacob,” she purrs, as I bring her closer to an orgasm. I’m one hundred percent on board with that plan. I reach down and into my pocket to grab a condom from my wallet. I rip the package with my teeth and quickly roll it down my length. I’m painfully hard right now. The thought of being inside a woman again has me teetering close to the edge.

Simone eases her panties down her legs and pushes me down on the closed toilet lid. The cool porcelain sends a shiver down my legs, but does nothing to cool the heat that she has me caught up in. I watch as she straddles me and slowly guides herself down the length of me. When she fully settles, her head falls back and a little moan comes from her. I grip her hips and start raising her up and down my cock slowly, all the while savoring the way her cunt muscles are pulling me in.

Man, I’ve missed sex.

Simone takes over, riding me faster and harder. I can feel her swelling and becoming tighter around me. I know she’s getting close. Her arms are wrapped around my shoulders and her breath is panting across my lips. I slide my hands over her thighs, feeling her muscles as they move with each rise and fall of her body. My hands rest at the juncture of her legs and thighs, I squeeze her there when her pussy starts fluttering with her impending orgasm. I’m not sure I’m going to last much longer. Her silken heat is too much for me. I want nothing more than to give into the feelings rushing through my body and just pound into her until I explode.

My thumb moves to her clit and puts pressure there, slowly rubbing circles around her little nub. Her whole body tenses and she slams down on my cock, while her pussy squeezes me. I take over the motions and lift her again, pulling her down roughly while my hips surge up. After a few more times, I give into the sensations sliding up and down my spine. My balls are tight and heavy, aching for that release. I close my eyes and ride out how fucking good it feels.

Simone sliding up off me has me opening my eyes again. A satisfied smirk is on her face when she says, “Thanks love. I really needed that.”

I stand and dispose of the condom, pulling my boxers and jeans back up my legs. “Glad I could be of some assistance,” I say while lightly kissing her lips.

Caston Black has it all, according to the outside world. The owner of the best-selling gentlemen’s magazine, Black Hollywood, has good looks, fame, fortune, and a reputation thatprecedes him. He can have any woman he wants, as long as he doesn’t keep them. Caston sets his sights on Sabrina for his next Hollywood Sweetheart. Little does he know he will find the woman to share his life, the one he is meant to keep forever.

Sabrina Bennett has been in a mentally and physically abusive relationship that has destroyed the beautiful, confident dancer who arrived at college three years ago. She thinks the only good thing left in her life is her abusive boyfriend. Keeping her boyfriend happy is her number one priority, no matter how impossible. She’s been broken and molded into a frightened, unsure girl desperate to be worthy of love.

Meeting by chance one evening, sparks fly between Caston and Sabrina. Neither expected the feelings they bring out in each other. Trying to have a normal relationship in their abnormal world is almost impossible, happiness is a new way of life for the lovers. They want to move forward, but the past won’t let go.

Can Caston help Sabrina heal from her past abuse? Can Sabrina show Caston he is as strong as he appears to be? When is the price of love too much? What do you do when the biggest threat to the person you love is you?

Breakfast flew by.  Caston stood up to leave and I felt sad, as if a piece of me was leaving.  Standing in front of him, I straightened his suit coat; feeling very brazen I took his lapels in my hands, pulling him close to me.  He put his hands on my hips, under my shirt.  His thumbs edge their way to touch my skin.  It jumped at his touch.

“Be good today.  I will leave an iPad for you to use.”  He leaned forward and kissed my forehead.  I sighed, and looked up at him timidly through my eyelashes.

“Yes, Caston,” I responded angelically.  My mind was begging him to kiss me.  Please, God, kiss me.

“I could get used to this,” Caston replied, staring into my hazel eyes, while brushing my sides with his thumbs.

He was barely a hair’s breadth away from my mouth now.  He enveloped my mouth, and his tongue parted my lips, hungrily seeking mine.  I allowed him entrance, and my knees buckled.  He caught me, pressing me to his body.  One hand stayed on my backwhile the other skimmed up my back and tangled in my hair.  Intertwining his hand in my hair, he pulled my head back, starting to kiss the sides of my mouth down to my neck.  My mind went absolutely blank, and I felt my insides clenching.  Just as suddenly as he started kissing me, he pulled away.  Breathless, I leaned up against the table.  Holy shit!  Did that just happen?

Review: Pawn by @aimee_carter

For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can either spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.

If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked—surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister's niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.

There's only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed …and one Kitty believes in. Faced with threats, conspiracies and a life that's not her own, she must decide which path to choose—and learn how to become more than a pawn in a twisted game she's only beginning to understand.

Previously titled Masked.

I’ve been in a need of a new dystopian novel. Pawn is a story about Kitty, a seventeen year old orphan girl, whose turn it is to test to determine her place in society. When she gets a III, she feels as if her life is over. Kitty has dyslexia and was unable to finish the test due to not being able to read. So instead of leaving the only life she’s ever known and her boyfriend Benjy, Kitty decides to go and be a prostitute. At least doing that, she won’t have to move to Denver and risk not ever seeing the love of her life. It’s at the club she’s at that her life changes and nothing will ever be the same. She’s offered the chance of a lifetime. But it comes at a price.

“Tell you what Kitty. How would you like to be a VII?”

My mind has been blown to bits and pieces. Pawn is original and new and oh so dark and creepy! Kitty has a ton of spunk as our heroine, and in the world that she lives in, spunk is just what you need. Becoming Lila Hart is her blessing in disguise.

The whole mask aspect was intriguing and down right disturbing. Having your whole identity changed through extensive surgery is scary to think about. Kitty then meets Lila’s mom Celia, and Knox, Lila’s fiancée. It’s through them that she has to learn how to talk, walk, and act just like Lila. Can she trust them? Or are they just trying to use her for their own gain?

“Maybe I was nothing more than a pawn to her, a nameless piece in whatever twisted game she was playing, but she had to acknowledge me eventually.”

The romance was perfect but not too in your face. Even better, there isn’t a love triangle. The story is more focused on the politics of the country and finding a way to keep control of the population.

Pawn is full of backstabbing, lies, and plot twists galore! There was never a dull moment while reading. If you are looking for a fresh novel full of action and a kick ass heroine, this is the book for you.

2. When did you first realize you wanted to be an author?
When I was first diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I found out how therapeutic writing was and from then on I knew I had to be an author.

I’m a pretty classic girl, I still believe that a movie and a nice dinner is the best way to get to know someone during a date.
4. Favorite color?
Hard for me to choose between blood red and black, but I think blood red is my favorite.

Determined to prove that their love can survive anything, Andrew decides to take Camryn on a new journey filled with hope and passion. If only he can convince her to come along for the ride…

*May contain a spoiler*

Oh my! More Andrew...!!!!

The Edge of Always is the perfect ending to a perfect couple and book.

Cam and Andrew are engaged with baby on the way. He was able to beat that tumor and now the couple is blissfully happy. Until tragedy strikes the couple. Can they get over their hurt? Will they be able to move on?

The same magic I felt while reading The Edge of Never was ever present in TEoA. Andrew's sense of humor mixed with Camryn's calm somehow blends the book into something truly amazing.

The sex scenes were steamy, the conversations witty, and Andrew was sexy as hell! I am so glad we got his pov along with Cam. I don't always like male pov but I love being in Andrew's head.

Towards the end of the book, I kinda found myself skimming. The story was dragging. But I so recommend this to everyone. All you Andrew fans out there, get ready to fall in love again. Oh and maybe have some tissues on hand? Just saying.

Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing, Forever for a copy!

The air around them crackled with anticipation as they silently walked to the living room. She sat on the couch and invited him to sit next to her. Micah removed his boots and pulled her from her seat. Once he was lying on the couch, he pulled Julia down to him, and she sank in between him and the back of the couch. They fell asleep in each other’s arms, legs intertwined. Some time later, she felt Micah stir beneath her. Without hesitation, she brushed his jaw with her lips. A low groan fell from Micah’s mouth as she trailed kisses from the edge of his goatee to the tender hollow below his ear. She pulled her head back to take in the serene look on his face as helay with his eyes closed. Micah sighed again, pulling Julia onto his chest as he shifted to his back. The full body contact sentshockwaves straight to Julia’s core. It had been years since such simple movements caused this type of reaction within her. She brushed the hair from Micah’s face and continued to deliverfeatherlight kisses across his forehead, then one to the tip of his nose. Her breath caught when she saw the longing in Micah’s eyes. The moment she brought her lips to his, the passion exploded. He gently bit her lower lip before sliding the tip of his tongue to meet hers. When she didn’t resist, he allowed his tongue to explore more, tenderly sweeping around hers before he felt her gently sucking his tongue deeper into her mouth. Micah’s calloused hands reached under Julia’s shirt, caressing her sides. Her back arched as she felt his thumbs slide over the top of her cotton bra. “You’re going to have to tell me when it’s too much,” Micah groaned through staggered breaths. “I’ve waited so long to touch you again, I won’t be the one to say no.” As he placed gentle kisses at the corners of her mouth, Julia whispered, “I’m not saying no either.” She tugged at the hem of his T-shirt, needing to feel his bare skin against hers. Micah shifted their bodies so he could sit up without breaking their embrace. Before leaning back on the couch, he slid his hands up her back to unclasp her bra. Julia leaned back as he slid the straps from hershoulders, allowing him to take in the sight of her swollen breasts. Micah kissed and nipped his way down Julia’s neck to her chest until he slowly took one taut nipple into his mouth. She moaned as his tongue teased his way around the sensitive tip. In anticipation, her panties were drenched. There would be time for taking it slow later. Right now, she needed him. Julia hurriedly worked on the stud on Micah’s jeans, “Do you still carry one … in your … wallet?” she whispered between deep kisses. Micah nodded in confirmation, and Julia reached under him. Micah sat on the couch with Julia straddled across his lap. “Baby, not here …” She swallowed hard at his words. “I swear, I’ll kill you if you stop now,” Julia warned. She was past the point of no return.

Meet H.B.

With the exception of three years spent in the middle of Nebraska, H.B. Heinzer has called southern Wisconsin home. During that time in Nebraska, she imagined one of her favorite authors living on the far western edge of the county, just south of the highway. At the time, becoming a novelist was a distant dream for her. Now, she is the author living in that location. Ironically, she later found out that same favorite author lives just outside the town HB lived in for the first eighteen years of her life. Now, HB lives in the middle of nowhere but still close enough to the city to not feel isolated. It's the perfect place to let her two kids run and explore their huge yard, teach them about the food chain as they prepare their first-ever garden and debate building a chicken coop. It's one of those dreams that is only possible thanks to the amazing opportunities that have come through writing.
