Emma Douglas would love to live in a world where professional napping was a thing. But until then, she thinks writing books is a pretty awesome alternative. When not writing about imaginary people, she can be found reading, doing something crafty, binge-watching TV, playing her latest song crush on repeat, or singing badly in her car. She lives in Melbourne, Australia in a tiny house stuffed full of books, too many craft supplies and two cats who take up more space than you would expect. Review:
"In the next instant, he was looking at her as no man ever had. Not even her ex-husband. As if she were a mystery he had to solve. A dessert he wanted to eat. A treasure he expected to claim."

"Second, I’m not desperate for sex right now. I’m desperate for you. Since you came to my room, I’ve done nothing but fantasize about your beautiful curves.”

“Counteroffer. Let’s discuss this all night. Next time we see each other, let’s pretend we’re lovers and we’re allergic to our clothing.”

“Shall we seal our deal with a kiss?”
She bristled, saying, “Sure. If you want to kiss my butt.” “Yes.” He fought a grin. “I accept. Bend over.”

Okay, I need to stop but I don't know how. Daniel was something else. So damn charming...if these quotes are anything to go by! I had more but decided that you should probably swoon over them once you read the book. Hint, hint.

The moment I picked up this story, I had NO idea I would love it as much as I did. We get a glimpse into Thea's life as a teenager. She was bullied and put down for being a curvaceous young woman. The boy she loved, Daniel, was as sweet as they come, but he's a young hormonal boy. And had only one thing on his mind...

Years pass and Thea owns the only Inn in town. While Daniel served in the military and has a case of PTSD. He doesn't want to fall in love so he has a string of women he likes to chase. Once the chase is over... I'm sure you can put two and two together. When he and Thea run into each other at the Inn she works at (and the place Daniel likes to take his dates), you can already see the sparks fly between them. Delicious.

Daniel and Thea both have dark secrets that have put them in a place in their life where they have to learn how to trust. The banter and dialogue between the two was what made the book for me. I can't tell you how many times I laughed, giggled, and swooned.

"She had become his everything. His reason for waking up every morning. His reason for smiling. His reason for breathing. His reason for being."

Of course, I adored all the secondary characters and best friends of both Thea and Daniel. Who all happen to hint at more stories. One with Jude and Ryanne and the other with Brock and Lyndie. I'll be honest with you, I want Brock's book bad! I've also went ahead and bought the other books in the series. Something I strongly suggest you should do too.

I think I found gold. And I get it, I'm so late to the game. Better late than never though, right? If you're like me and hasn't yet read the wonderful books, do yourself a favor and READ! Daniel, Thea, and gang (and characters from previous books) are the best friends you wish you had in your life.

"You are my type. You are my favorite type. Right now you’re my only type.”

Excerpt:
Daniel, having served multiple tours of duty, had come back a hero.
His life had meaning, hers didn’t. He and two of his friends had started a security company right here in Strawberry Valley. He took care of his ailing father, and in his free time he dated a plethora of city girls.
Dorothea knew about the girls because he’d stayed at the inn every time a date had ended…successfully.
Her flush returned full force as she considered the other five rooms he’d wrecked since his return…all the pleasure he’d been having…all the pleasure she wished she could experience.
Not with him, of course. With someone she liked and respected. Someone who liked and respected her, too, despite the fact that she was still too round for society’s unhealthy standards, a lot too freckled and trapped in a dead-end job.
Daniel Porter would never qualify.
Dorothea found him attractive, yes, but to her, appearance would never outshine personality.
My man must be my equal. She had a lot of love to give. She’d even grown to like herself…kind of. Maybe. Fine, she was trying to like herself.
Avoiding Daniel’s gaze, she said, “No, you stay. I’ll go.” Words her mother had drilled into her shouted inside her head: the customer comes first. “I’ll finish your room later.” She rolled the vacuum toward her cart.
“You live here, right?” he asked. “You own the inn?”
“I… Yes.” Technically she lived in the attic. The more rooms she had available for guests, the more money she would make. At least in theory.
Money was the number one reason she cleaned the pigsties herself, rather than hiring a maid. She was saving her pennies to turn every plain, ordinary room into a themed paradise. Then Strawberry Valley residents would happily pay to stay just for fun.
Again, in theory.
So far she’d decided on six themes. (1) Four seasons—the weather, not the hotel chain. (2) An enchanted forest. (3) A techno dance club. (4) The underwater world of Atlantis. (5) A royal palace. And (6) an inner sanctum, aka a superhero’s wet dream.
Also up for consideration? A beach hut, an igloo, an insane asylum for her more daring patrons and a desert oasis.
With twenty-three rooms in total, she needed other ideas fast. And more money. A lot more money.
Maybe, when the transformations were completed, the feeling of accomplishment would finally chase away her anger and bitterness. Maybe she would feel alive. Happy.
“If any part of your stay was subpar,” she said, “I will personally—”
“No, everything has been great.” He looked over his shoulder and winked at her. “Just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to get into trouble with the boss.”
Every pulse point in her body leaped with excitement. He’d winked at her. Her!
I think you’re perfect just the way you are.
Red alert! She would not read more into his words than he’d intended. Not this time. He was a flirt, plain and simple. Always had been, apparently always would be.
“Why would I get in trouble?” she asked.
“For not finishing the room.”
Oh. Right. “Well, as long as you plan to come back to the inn, I won’t fire myself. Not because I’m desperate to see you or anything,” she added in a rush. “I’m not.” Dang it! “I mean, I’m always glad to see you here. I mean, I just want your money.” Okay. Enough!
He laughed, his amber eyes twinkling.
Air caught in her throat and sizzled. He had the sexiest laugh on the planet. His entire face softened. He pulsed with new life; fresh and vibrant, he was the epitome of spring.
Then he frowned, as if he couldn’t believe he’d found humor in, well, anything.
Her brow furrowed with confusion. Why the doom and gloom?
“In that case,” he said, his tone flat, “I think I’ll stay another night.”
“Really?” She licked her lips. “What about your girlfriend?”
He stiffened. “She isn’t my—”
“No, don’t tell me. I’m sorry I asked. Your love life isn’t my business.”
“I live in Strawberry Valley. My love life is everyone’s business.”
His wry tone made her chuckle, and he stiffened all over again. Great. What had she done wrong this time?
“I’ll be alone tonight,” he said, looking anywhere but at her. “Apparently I hover over my dad when I’m home, so he’s asked for another night off. But I swear to you, this room will be clean in the morning.”
She snorted. “I’ll believe it when I see it.”
The corners of his mouth twitched. “Doubting Dottie.” A pause, then, “Would you like a cup of coffee before you go?”
“Oh, uh, no, thank you.” While she no longer viewed Daniel through the wounded eyes of high school betrayal— he’d been a nice boy doing a nice thing for a vulnerable girl in desperate need of a white knight—she’d endured too much heartbreak over the years to risk getting to know him better and reigniting her crush.
Look at the way she’d reacted to him already.
He appeared…disappointed? No, of course not. A trick of the light, surely. “Well. See you around, Daniel.”
“Yeah. See you around, Dottie.” He returned his attention to his toiletry bag, dismissing her.
Irritation had her snapping, “My name is Dorothea.”
Before he could respond, she stepped into the hall and closed the door with a soft snick. Hands trembling, she hooked the vacuum to the cart and rolled the cargo to the supply room…where her younger sister Holly was smoking a cigarette.

Pretend to be from Spain? Act like she can barely speak English? Sure, why not? It wouldn’t be the first time Gabby Vega had agreed to a challenge from her best friend, Kenzie. Besides, it’s only for a week of vacation with Kenzie’s cousins. Gabby will prove to Kenzie she can keep up the fake identity for the whole trip—that she’s not a quitter.

There’s just one major surprise. Noah Jernigan is also staying with Kenzie’s cousins. Noah, the boy she fell in love with at drama camp last summer and the boy she had to dump when it was over. The boy who knows who she really is.

Noah can’t believe it when Gabby appears at the Bryson’s vacation home in the New Mexico mountains. He hasn’t seen her in a year. It practically took that long just to get over her. And now she’s Gabriela from Spain? All he wants is to get as far away as he can. Or maybe the exact opposite. Stick as close to her as possible and find out what the heck happened last summer. And definitely get some payback.

Now Gabby has to keep Noah at arm’s length as she pretends to be Gabriela. She doesn’t want to answer his questions or rehash last summer. Because one thing is clear—the more time she spends with Noah, the more she’s in danger of falling for him all over again.

The mother of two grown sons, Patricia B. Tighe lives in West Texas with her husband and dog. She eats way too much pizza, drinks way too much coffee, and watches way too much NFL football. On the bright side, she also reads and writes teen fiction. She promises to include as much romance, angst, and adventure as possible in her books.

Seventeen-year-old Autumn Teslow arrives at her father’s job fair knowing she’ll never measure up to the perfect image of daddy’s little girl—her twin sister.

Wearing anger management issues like a second skin won’t help Autumn win her dad’s approval for the big trip she’s been planning—or meet his condition that she successfully complete a summer internship for college.

Autumn’s cool unravels when her sister lectures against disappointing the family again. And when a young, bearded guy steps through the crowd to settle the growing argument between siblings, Autumn lashes out, dubbing him a “Duck Dynasty wannabe.”
At Nineteen, Caden Behr is clueless as to why his man parts are threatened by the fearsome girl before him. He’d only come to find an intern for his recreational equipment company, not break up a girl-fight between two sisters.

Unfortunately, the only candidate left is the girl who just told him off. Without her, he’ll never prove to his CEO mother that he’s ready for more responsibility.
Autumn and Caden agree that if they can keep from killing one another, they can use one another to get what they want and then never have to see each other again. Which is what they want.

Until it isn’t.

Because despite her best efforts to scare him off, and his fading desire to push her into the lake, they’re beginning to enjoy the time they spend together. But pride is a hard habit to break. And if neither will admit their changing feelings, they could lose a whole lot more than one summer.

As a child, Julie’s summers were about horseback riding and fishing, while winter brought sledding and ice-skating on frozen ponds. Most of life was magical, but not all. She struggled with multiple learning disabilities, and spent much of her time gazing out windows and daydreaming. In the fourth grade (with the help of one very nice teacher) she fought dyslexia for her right to read and won. Afterward, she invented stories where powerful heroines kicked bad-guy butt to win the hearts charismatic heroes. And then she wrote one down… Writing ever since, Julie weaves southern gothic, contemporary, fantasy, and young adult romances. She enjoys sweeping tales of mystery and epic adventure… which must include a really hot guy. Her writing is proof a dream and some hard work can overcome any obstacle.

School is out and Lucy is ready for the perfect summer: lazy days at the pool, invitations to the most exclusive parties, and romantic dates with her hot new boyfriend. That is, until she lands in trouble one too many times and her parents issue the ultimate punishment: a summer job. Suddenly, the summer can’t end fast enough.
To make matters worse, the job is painting houses with Justin, the most popular, egotistical guy in school. Spending all summer with Justin might be other girls’ dreams, but definitely not Lucy’s. After all, Justin is cocky, annoying, and a jerk. So what if he’s the most beautiful jerk Lucy’s ever seen? Or that his grin makes her forget she’s mad at the world? Or that maybe, just maybe, there’s more to Justin than Lucy realizes. Only one thing is certain: it won’t be the summer she wanted, but it might be exactly the one she needs.

The fifth book and the exciting conclusion to bestselling author Kelley Armstrong's "impossible-to-put-down" Cainsville series, in which she mixes hard-hitting crime writing with phenomenal world-building to create a brand of fiction all her own.

Review:
Rituals is good end to an even better series. When I picked up the first book, I was hooked. I quickly fell in love with all the gang because not only are they all smart, but they kept everything interesting. Liv is probably one of the most well rounded and strongest leading ladies in literature. She knew how to handle her own but at the same time, she knew when to ask for help.

Gabriel has left a small piece in my heart. I enjoyed watching him grow (albeit, slowly) in the books. He takes emotionally unavailable to a whole other level. I loved him so, so much though! His story is one I won't soon forget. Now onto Ricky. Sigh. He's awesome. If I were to ever pick a book boyfriend to come to life, it would be him. Sweet, loyal, sexy, and an all around great guy.

All three of them have made some of my days better. I'm so sad to see them go. There are many things that happen in Rituals that I want to shout on the rooftop! But I can't. Some of you are probably wondering about this infamous love triangle. As you know, a certain thing happened at the end of Betrayals. Liv, Gabriel, and Ricky are all part of a bigger plan. The story surrounding them was always a bit complex at times to me but I'm with Liv, she should definitely have the right to choose who she loves. Instead of fate deciding for her.

When I first realized there was going to be a love triangle, I was disappointed. I hate them. But only because I feel like the author makes me love both and it hurts when I'm the end, the heroine or hero,
has to choose and ultimately, hurting a character I love. Luckily, this story is about so much more than romance. It's why I feel like readers will love the books. It has some paranormal aspects, romance to tide a hopeless romantic like me, and the mystery storyline that keeps you guessing. The surprises in the book were everything!

Overall, this is for readers looking for books that you can get lost in. This is for readers who like strong female characters who are intelligent and know exactly what they want. And sure as hell not afraid to get it. This is for readers who like a rich story that's able to weave folklore tales into a beautiful book. While I felt the series was slow at times, the author always had a way to pull me back. I'm so happy to have been able to read Liv's story and follow her on such an incredible journey.

About the Author:
Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.

Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.

Blog Tour Review - A Short History of the Girl Next Door by Jared Reck

Publisher: September 26, 2017
Pub Date: Knopf Books for Young Readers
Genre: YA Contemporary
Source: ARC from Publisher
Rating:

Blurb:
The unrequited love of the girl next door is the centerpiece of this fiercely funny, yet heart-breaking debut novel.

Fifteen-year-old Matt Wainwright is in turmoil. He can’t tell his lifelong best friend, Tabby, how he really feels about her; his promising basketball skills are being overshadowed by his attitude on the court, and the only place he feels normal is in English class, where he can express his inner thoughts in quirky poems and essays. Matt is desperately hoping that Tabby will reciprocate his feelings; but then Tabby starts dating Liam Branson, senior basketball star and all-around great guy. Losing Tabby to Branson is bad enough; but, as Matt soon discovers, he’s close to losing everything that matters most to him.

Humorous and heart-wrenching, A Short History of the Girl Next Door is perfect for readers who fell in love with All the Bright Places' Finch or Stargirl’s Leo.

Review:
Oh my word... I was NOT expecting that, at all. I need to learn to pay attention to a blurb when it clearly states that the book will be heartbreaking. How am I supposed to get over the story when it made my heart whole then crushed it? Readers, don't be scared despite it being bittersweet; the story was so beautiful. The main character, Matt, struggles through unrequited love and pain. I loved him immediately because he's real, sarcastic, and such a romantic at heart. Such an endearing and well thought out character.

The story seems simple. Two best friends that have grown up together, one falls in love with the other, while the other falls in love with a senior. A Short History of the Girl Next Door is not at all simple. Matt was just fine as the best friend of Tabby, until one day "bam!" he's hit with cupid's arrow. And it's all down hill from there. That's when my heart really started to break. But I couldn't stop reading until I finished the book. When I finally did, I was left with that bittersweet feeling. The one where you can see hope in the near distance but still have that empty hole in your chest.

I absolutely believe readers will fall in love with this book. For the mere reason that it has such an incredible cast of characters. It's thoughtful and realistic at the same time. I have a new author to look forward to reading now.

1) Take things slow (her rule)
2) Make it believable (his rule)

After tragedy hit her family, Meg Matthews officially crossed the line from “good girl” to “bad girl.” Motorcycle? Check. Graffiti? Check. The only thing Meg hadn’t planned on was blackmail. Too bad now a certain infuriating boy holds Meg’s future in his hands…

When Luke Prescott—star pitcher and town golden boy—catches Meg vandalizing the school, she’s given two choices: face the consequences or enter into a fake relationship with him to get his parents and his ex off his back.

But as Meg and Luke grow closer, they both realize they’ve been keeping secrets from each other. Their fake relationship might be doomed from the start—if they can’t learn to open up to the one person they never thought they’d trust.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains late-night graffiti sessions, flirty baseball lessons, and a never-ending list of relationship rules just made to be broken.

Review:
I had a goofy grin the entire time I read The Rules of Persuasion. Both Luke and Meg were beyond adorable; they had me feeling butterflies and thinking about the times of first love. The dialogue was both fun and witty. I can't tell
you enough how much I love a feel good YA romance story. I'm always a such for the fake romance trope. It never gets old to me.

Meg literally gets caught red handed by the towns golden boy. He's popular, spoiled, and rich. Or is he? Luke is so much more then meets the eye. He's funny, kind, and once you get to know him, he's a good guy. Meg is the unattainable and beautiful redhead. She's got her group of friends and that's all she needs. After a tragedy hit her family, Meg acted out by vandalizing abandoned buildings and of course her own school. Where Luke catches her.

When Luke proposes a deal for them to fake date in exchange for keeping quiet about the incident, sparks fly. Meg and Luke have beautiful chemistry and it's not long before that attraction starts setting in. If you're looking for a book that will make you both happy and giddy, then this is perfect for you.
