Blurbs-
In the new Second Chances novel by the author of Back to Before, even love might not prove strong enough to save a man’s promising future from a woman’s hidden past...

All he ever fought for...

Aspiring congressman Miles McAlister has dreamed of representing his hometown of Chances Inlet, North Carolina, since he was a boy. So when he’s asked to help run his mother’s bed and breakfast he moves home and rolls out his campaign at the same time. But political stardom isn’t a given, especially when he’s expected to compromise the very ideals he’s trying to uphold. Making matters worse is the inn’s stubborn, and distractingly beautiful cook. He’s loved and lost before, so falling for Lori Buchman is not part of his plan.

All she ever feared...

Lori just wants to do her job and be left alone until she can safely move on. The last thing she needs is to get involved with her boss’s son. Miles proves to be too sexy to ignore, however. Their heated fling elicits feelings deeper than either anticipated. But everything about Lori is a lie. She’s harboring a secret that’ll destroy Miles’s career, and when the truth gets out it’s going to shock Chances Inlet to its core, forcing Miles to make the hardest decision of his life.

Review-
I loved this book so much. I didn't think I would because books with plots centered around politics can be a hit or miss for me. Politicians aren't my thing; but I'm glad to say that Miles McAlister definitely makes up for my dislike. This is my first time reading a book by Tracy Solheim, and I'm glad to say that she has a new fan. Her writing is elegant, hot, and sweet all mixed up into one. I never found the book lacking or boring in any way.

All the characters are the kind that endear you to them; make you love them even when the pages are done. "All They Ever Wanted" is the second book in A Second Chances Novel", it can be read as a standalone though. The first book is about his brother, Gavin, and in my opinion, I think it would be good to start with it just because you'll be able to get introduced to recurring characters. Then again, apparently there are some characters from a different series - Out of Bounds. So it's all connected in some way, shape or form.

The book starts off with Miles McAlister and his lifelong dream that's about to become a reality. He's always had a plan to run for congressman, then eventually in the near future, become the president. What wasn't in his well thought out plan was having to watch over his mother's bed and breakfast, and keeping an eye on the mysterious woman helping his mother out as well, Lori.

Lori comes from a past she wishes she could run away from. But everyone knows you can't keep the past back for long. Sooner or later it will come back to get you. She is a closed off woman who works at the bed and breakfast as the maid and cook. The longer she stays in North Carolina, the harder it gets to leave. Especially once Miles starts showing her more and more attention.

The two know they shouldn't get into a relationship of any sorts, even though their attraction to one another is undeniable. Lori knows for a fact she'd be terrible for Miles and his campaign. And Miles? Well, all he knows is that he'll never love again after losing the love of his life years ago. Will these two broken people with secrets ever learn to trust one another? Or will they forever be doomed to be alone?

As soon as I finished the story, I had the biggest grin on my face. This is what a true romance book is all about and the whole reason I read them! The romance was perfect and I loved all the side stories that made the book so much more interesting. I'm hoping this isn't the last book for the 'Second Chances Novel' because I feel like I can't get enough of the McAlister family. There's one certain baseball player that I'm dying to get my hands on!

Overall, this is a must read for any romance fan out there. Come fall in love with the wonderful world that Tracy has created.

Release Blitz Review + Giveaway- SEE YOU AT SUNSET by V.K. Sykes

About SEE YOU AT SUNSET (Seashell Bay 3)
All Holly Tyler wants is a fantastic career, a not-too-committed relationship, and a city where there are no painful memories. Instead, she's called back to her hometown of Seashell Bay to help with her family's struggling general store. It's a town where everyone knows everyone, and where one man could sink Holly's careful plans.

Deputy Sheriff Micah Lancaster has wanted Holly for as long as he can remember. He knows she has a life on the mainland-and a boyfriend-and that there's no real future with her. But now Holly is back and the attraction still flickers between them, a promise of something more. Their desire is stronger than any undertow . . . and once it pulls them under, it won't let go.

Review:
This is one of those times where a book didn't make it or break it for me. It just was. Upon starting the book, I realized that I couldn't connect to any of the characters. I thought it was just because I was only in a few chapters, but the more I read, the more I realized that maybe this wasn't going to be the book for me. I trudged on and finished it though. And while by the end of the book, I didn't hate it, I also didn't love it either.

Holly and Micah are friends; friends that may or may not want more. The thing is, are either one of them willing to risk said friendship for a fling? Would it, could it ever be more than just a fling? When Holly is called back to home after her aunt ends up in the hospital due to a panic attack, it's inevitable that she'll run into Micah. Considering he's the sheriff and all. It's been awhile since she's been back and she comes with a past a wee bit tragic.

Holly's husband died four years prior on a mission gone wrong. So it makes sense that she's skeptical when it comes to love and not wanting to be committed to anyone. Add her ever growing feelings to the hottie sheriff and a series of burglaries around town, and you got yourself a book of entertainment. Why then could I not get into it, you ask?

I think I was bored for the most part. There were times when I felt the story drag and the it would pick up and I would be interested enough to want to keep reading. Would I recommend this? Absolutely. In the end, it was entertaining and had some swoony moments. The plot was interesting as well. If you love a sweet romance, this will be perfect for you.

Review:
Instead reviewing each individual book, I'll be reviewing all the books as a whole. Hopefully my words will convince you enough to pick up these wonderfully written historical romances. Even if you aren't much of a fan with historical, I still suggest picking up the books. Why? One, the characters are all well written and easy to identify with. The male leads are all swoon-worthy and dreamy. Ever single one of them have one thing in common; they're honorable, loyal, and loving men.

Two, each book is uniquely different in its own special way. The heroines all had a way of making their stories their own, and I loved it every step of the way, in every book. Now, there were times that the stories would be a standstill and I would struggle to get through chapters. Some were boring and too long. But I don't think it takes away from the overall goodness of the books.

In short, if you're looking for well written romance stories that will take you away to another time, then this is for you. I would love to read more from the author, and more in the genre in general. Historical fiction is fast becoming one of my go to books; I can't resist a good old time romance. And these books offer is a slow burn love, which makes it that much better when the respective couples finally make it to each other!

Review: The Widow by Fiona Barton

Publisher: NAL
Pub. Date: February 16, 2016
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Source: Print ARC
Rating: 4 Stars

Blurb:
For fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, an electrifying thriller that will take you into the dark spaces that exist between a husband and a wife.

When the police started asking questions, Jean Taylor turned into a different woman. One who enabled her and her husband to carry on, when more bad things began to happen...

But that woman’s husband died last week. And Jean doesn’t have to be her anymore.

There’s a lot Jean hasn’t said over the years about the crime her husband was suspected of committing. She was too busy being the perfect wife, standing by her man while living with the accusing glares and the anonymous harassment.

Now there’s no reason to stay quiet. There are people who want to hear her story. They want to know what it was like living with that man. She can tell them that there were secrets. There always are in a marriage.

The truth—that’s all anyone wants. But the one lesson Jean has learned in the last few years is that she can make people believe anything…

Review:
I didn't expect The Widow to be quite so dark but that's what I got. Fair warning, this is about a woman standing by her husband after he's accused of kidnapping a beautiful little girl, Bella. It's also about the disgusting but very realistic look at predators on the Internet. The reason I want to give you a fair warning though, is because the husband, Glen, not only is he accused of the kidnapping but the guy is into disturbing images of child pornagraphy. He likes the type of porn where a woman will dress up as a child... No other commented needed. It all speaks for itself.

Throughout the novel, we get to see most of book through the eyes of his wife, Jean, who knows something is wrong but let's herself get charmed out of it when Glen blames everyone but himself for the deplorable images he likes to see and watch. But see that she truly believes he's innocent. Is he? Could her husband truly be this big of a monster? To prey on baby girls? More importantly, if this was your husband, would you be able to stand by his side every step of the way despite the fact that the world thinks of him as a child killer; a pedophile?

I was on the edge of my seat pretty much through the whole book. At one point I believed I knew what had happened. I was wrong, in a way. But some of my suspicions were confirmed towards the end of the book. To say I was beyond disgusted is an understatement. This kind of stuff isn't really that eye opening to me but with the internet you just never know. It's the perfect place for child predators to hide behind and do the things that they do. Things I won't allow myself to imagine.

The early reviews are saying the book is an equivalent to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train; The Widow definitely delivers but in its own right. I will say that the tone does match those two books in which they all will keep you reading until the very end. I liked the fact that we also got see things from the reporter, detective, and Bella's mom's point of view. It let us see all different kinds of angles of the book.

I, one hundred percent believe, that The Widow will be a fan favorite. You'll get to delve into the human mind and see the darker parts when it comes to sex, marriage, and deadly desires.

About the Author:
My career has taken some surprising twists and turns over the years. I have been a journalist - senior writer at the Daily Mail, news editor at the Daily Telegraph, and chief reporter at The Mail on Sunday, where I won Reporter of the Year at the National Press Awards, gave up my job to volunteer in Sri Lanka and since 2008, have trained and worked with exiled and threatened journalists all over the world.

But through it all, a story was cooking in my head.

The worm of this book infected me long ago when, as a national newspaper journalist covering notorious crimes and trials, I found myself wondering what the wives of those accused really knew – or allowed themselves to know.

It took the liberation of my career change to turn that fascination into a tale of a missing child, narrated by the wife of the man suspected of the crime, the detective leading the hunt, the journalist covering the case and the mother of the victim.

Much to my astonishment and delight, The Widow is available now in the UK, and around the world in the coming months.

However, the sudden silence of my characters feels like a reproach and I am currently working on a second book.

My husband and I are living the good life in south-west France, where I am writing in bed, early in the morning when the only distraction is our cockerel, Sparky, crowing.

Review: MORTAL MUSINGS by Aria Glazki

Publication: Anika Press
Pub. Date: August 25, 2015
Genre: PNR
Source: E-ARC from author
Rating: 4 Stars

Blurb:
Muse Alexandra has had it with the arrogant, ungrateful humans she is obligated to inspire. When the internal ranting of her latest charge pushes her past reason, she disregards the rules and forces her own words through his fingers, and is instantly entrapped in mortal form. With no magic, no identity, and no resources, Allie has no alternative but to navigate the mortal realm, depending entirely on her reluctant host while discerning what exactly caused her transformation — and how to reverse it.

Brett doesn’t have a chance to consider the words that mysteriously showed up on his screen; he’s too distracted by the stunning woman who appeared in his office out of nowhere. Before his brain can catch up, Brett’s uninvited guest becomes enmeshed in his everyday life. Her artless innocence gradually lessens his suspicions. Most importantly, the writer’s block that’s been plaguing him dissolves under the fantasies the naively beguiling Alexandra inspires.

All too soon, the forced proximity sparks a confounding awareness neither writer nor muse are able to resist.

Review:
Mortal Musings had me at the acknowledgments. I liked the fact that it's dedicated to those that feel invisible. I know I've felt invisible a time or two. And it goes great for the theme of the book. Especially the beginning. Allie is a muse, a type of other world being that helps the process of creativity to artists, musicians, etc. She commits a huge no-no when she helps the process for one of her subjects by writing something that came directly from her.

All of a sudden the human man, Brett, can see her and instead of calling the cops, he takes her in. It's clear she has no idea where, who, or what she is. Basic things such as clothes and food are lost to Allie. To add on to all the confusion is human emotions! So scary! The sensual and sweet way Allie and Brett were around each other, made me want to scream. I felt the "chemistry" early on, and all I wanted them to do was get it on. I know, I know, I'm a pervert.

The story is one of sexy, slow burn romance. If you're looking for an insta- romance, you won't find that here. The beginning is a little slow to start but once you get several chapters in, it starts getting much more interesting. It's enjoyable watching Allie maneuver her way around our world. But she needs to get back to her realm. There's a way but she's going to have to figure it out all on her own. Follow Allie and Brett as they race to make sense of the predicament their in.

Tonight I would fuck the blonde in the front row who continued to visually rip my clothes off with every little blink she took. Her tits were hanging out of her shirt and she licked her lips and batted her eyes at me. The set was nearing the end and I could feel her gaze. When I looked away and back at her, it was like her eyes had never left me. I liked when a woman knew what she wanted.

Blue and green lights flashed over the stage then washed across the crowd. When we made eye contact again, her tongue traced the outside of her plump bottom lip and at that moment I knew she was DTF. Her being down to fuck made this so much easier but then again, being the lead singer of the Band of Brothers made panties magically melt. I'd be her fantasy for the night. I'm sure there would be many more one night stands considering each show from Florida to New York, all the way to California was sold out.

The drums beat on as I screamed out the next few lyrics. "I won't let the world decide. I'll die before that happens."

The drums stopped and the distortion was cut leaving a melodic strum of Nikolas's guitar.

The lights faded when walked off stage leaving the crowd screaming and yelling at the top of their lungs. Jex, Nic, and Rex had huge smiles covering their faces as they chugged the water the technicians handed us. This would never get old. Moments like this were the ones we lived and worked for. Once the chanting and clapping rose to the maximum volume, the four of us walked back onstage and gave the fans what they wanted, an encore.

Green and yellow lights flashed over the crowd and smoke hovered at the bottom of the stage. We played three more songs. People sang and swayed to the lyrics and music. Some jumped up and down, feeling the full beat of the drums while others banged their heads. The feeling of having thousands of people chanting my words would never become real. More often than not, I felt like I was in a dream, one that I never wanted to wake from.

During the last song, I pointed to the blonde. By the way she was dressed in a tight pink shirt and a skirt that showed the bottom of her ass cheeks, I knew she wanted to be seen. She could have possibly had this night planned from the beginning. Randomly, I chose a few others from the crowd to join us, to dance in front of our audience, to feel the temporary power. It was something I did every show, every tour. It was a habit of sorts.

Security helped the girls climb on the stage and they lifted their arms and shook their asses. Before the song ended, the technicians led the girls' side stage as cannons of small fireworks shot from the floor. After the final song, my brothers and played the crowd and threw drumsticks and guitar picks. The yelling didn't stop for minutes and the audience realized we weren't coming back out. I walked side stage where girls anxiously waited us. I smiled, popping an eyebrow at my chosen woman for the night, and she instantly came to me. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and hers hung on my waist. My brothers stopped in the green room with the other girls, but Blondie and I walked to the bus.

"I'm Lindsey," she whispered in my ear before we reached the end of the hallway. I smiled at her and pushed open the exit door. Groupies and fans waited near the bus and as soon as we walked up they rushed it.

"I'll be out in a bit," I said, smiling at them with pearly whites. "My brothers are coming out that door over there. Really soon."

I hated to out their exit strategy, but I wanted to take my time burying my dick deep inside Misty or Christy or whatever the fuck her name was. It didn't matter. Names never did.

Yet not everyone feels the same way, including a mysterious woman who's come to Ryker and Parker for help. Sage knows firsthand how hard it is for the two former Marines to resist a damsel in distress. But something just doesn't feel right.

Now there's a danger closing in that only Sage can see, and she intends to do everything she can to protect Parker and Ryker-even at the risk of losing them both.

Excerpt:

“Parker’s dead.”
Ryker stared at me, seemingly uncomprehending. Not that I could blame him. I’d just arrived on his doorstep in the middle of the night, though it didn’t look like he’d been asleep.
“They came to my apartment,” I continued, my voice flat. “They took me and they killed him. They just…killed him.” I couldn’t continue. Tears poured from my eyes as I began to sob. I’d been numb before, the ordeal of being kidnapped necessitating a distance from the horror of what had happened in my apartment. Was Parker’s body there even now?
I couldn’t breathe. Ryker was talking to me but I couldn’t hear him and I still couldn’t breathe. My knees buckled and if he hadn’t had a hold of me, I would’ve crumpled to the floor.
“Sage! Listen to me…” Ryker implored, but I barely heard him.
Suddenly, I was torn from his grasp. A hand forced my chin up and I blinked open my eyes—
Parker.
I gasped, stumbling backward, but he caught me.
“I’m okay,” he said, his blue eyes boring into mine. “They didn’t kill me. I’m all right.”
My jaw was hanging open, my sobs abruptly cut off, and then I threw myself at him.
“Oh my God oh my God on my God,” I kept repeating, my arms circling his neck so tightly I had to be choking him. Not that he seemed to mind. “You’re here! You’re okay.” More tears, but this time of relief rather than heartbreak.
Parker held me just as close, his arms around my waist just this side of painfully tight. His face was buried in my neck and I savored the feel of him in a way I never had before…because I’d never been so close to losing him as I had come tonight.
The sound of Ryker clearing his throat brought me back to the here and now, and I pulled back, releasing Parker. He let me go, albeit reluctantly it seemed. An uncomfortable awareness settled over me as I stepped away to put some space between Parker and me. Ryker stood a few feet away, shirtless with a bandage covering the burn on his chest, watching us.
“So, um, how, uh, how did you get here?” I asked Parker, hurriedly swiping my wet cheeks. My voice was hoarse and I avoided both their gazes, instead sinking onto the couch. I glanced around hopefully for McClane, but remembered he was still recuperating at the vet’s.
“Ryker showed up just in time, before Leo and his men decided to finish me off,” Parker said.
Leo Shea. Crime boss, ruthless “businessman,” and the guy who’d not only tried to kill me, but had decided to kill Parker, too. Lives meant nothing to him. Parker’s had been for expediency; mine was for revenge. Only luck in the former and the timely intervention of my father’s in the latter had thwarted Leo.
“And your apartment needs another cleanup job, by the way. I’ll call to get it done.”
Good to know. I wondered if whoever the CIA used for that sort of thing offered a discount for frequent customers.
“I knew they’d taken you,” Parker continued. “Ryker has weapons and ammunition, so we came here.”
He didn’t continue, but I could fill in the rest. They’d been on their way to rescue me. Well, at least they could agree on something at last.
And Ryker had ended up keeping Parker alive. I remembered now. Ryker had dropped me off at my place, then left to go to the police station, but had said he’d be back. Looked like his timing couldn’t have been better. He’d saved Parker, a man he supposedly hated.
Now the two men stood a few feet apart, both looking at me. The enormity of all that had happened during the past few days washed over me and I lifted a hand to rub my forehead. Ryker had said he wasn’t giving up on me, and Parker had told me he loved me. My headache seemed to grow exponentially, especially when images of Parker and me in my bed flashed through my mind.
